[WoG Question]City of Greyhawk descriptions

First Post
A while back in a thread I can't remember I asked about products that detailed the City of Greyhawk or other city's in WoG, gazatteer style.

Products I'm aware of are:
City of Greyhawk boxed set
Falconmaster Series modules
Greyhawk: The Adventure Begins.

Are there any other products.
The City of Greyhawk boxed set may be the obvious choice, buy the ESD is not available. Greyhawk: The adventure begins is available as an ESD. I'm particularly interested in comments on that product.

You might have better luck with this question over on the completely unofficial Greyhawk website, Canonfire

In the meantime, I have TAB (The Adventure Begins). It assumes the reader has little or no knowledge of the setting and spends some time telling how the calendar works and what the weather is like. After that, it does have a number of location entries along with some tiny bits that a DM might use for creating adventures. I cant remember more than that without going home and opening up the book.

Another place you might look for CoG info is the LG gazatteers that used to be free-standing but which have been bundled into dragon mag for a year or so. A number of the early ones had CoG specific information.

I have been wondering if the LGJ in Dragon would include any more sections of the City. The map of the city they had free in the stand-alone issue was better than either the one in the old boxed set or the newer The Adventure Begins. If WotC were planning on releasing a new City of Greyhawk, I would be satisfied, but they have said they AREN'T publishing Greyhawk material. ARGH! I want it, espcecially with the new buildings on the map that aren't described in older material!

It really scared me when the Greyhawk section was left out of #303!

Well, if you're interested, you can find an electronic copy of the LGJ map of the city at cartographer/co-author of those articles Denis 'Maldin' Tetreault's City of Greyhawk webpage: http://www.timebomb.on.ca/denist/greyhawk/cogh.html

Maldin also has some descriptions of a handful of buildings on that page, and if we bug him enough, we might be able to get him to write up more of the stuff that didn't make into LGJ for the Canonfire! site.

Not sure if this helps you at all, but the product "Iuz the Evil" contained many city maps and descriptions of cities in Iuz's region.

Heh, I'm surprised no-one has mentioned all the other ones yet, especially since chatdemon, aka Vice Lord Chancellor of Heretical Greyhawk and Thrice Damned Purveyer of Greyhawk Lore was just here :P

I'm not sure where or how these were published or if they are sold as ESD's, however I'm POSITIVE that they're on the net as PDF's somewhere...

Anyway, the ones I know of are:

Gem of the Flanaess
Folks, Feuds and Factions
Greyhawk Adventures
World of Greyhawk
Treasures of Greyhawk

Some of the above deal with areas outside of CoG but still make references to CoG. Gem of the Flanaess and Folks, Feuds and Factions is probably the best source for pure CoG info, IMO at least.

Um...
These two books were in the City of Greyhawk boxed set, mentioned above.

Also mentioned were the Falcon series modules, which have lots of nice CoG material despite being otherwise crappy adventures.

there's also a nifty 2e adventure written by roger e. moore called "the return of the eight". it doesn't have a ton of info on the city, but it does begin within the city and describes the re-formation of the circle of eight.

Ah yes, I had forgotten about Rot8. That one does have a detailed description (and maps) of Jallarzi's tower. IMO, Jallarzi, along with possibly Otto, is the most approachable of the Circle of 8, making her a great contact or patron for nuetral or good aligned parties, and her tower could be a short term safehaven for them if they are down on their luck in the city and have befriended her. (This assumes, as I do, that Jallarzi's paranoia and isolationism due to her ordeals in Rot8 have passed.).

Then again, if the party is fairly high level, and wants a good challenge, as well as 8 or 9 new very powerful enemies, looting Jallarzi's tower could be a great little adventure!
