Wolf and Improved Trip

Is there a way for a druid's wolf animal companion to get Improved Trip as a feat when the wolf reaches the appropriate HD (3 HD for 1st bonus feat, 6 HD for 2nd, etc)?

Cheers

Not that I know of. Imp Trip requires Int 13+ and Combat Expertise. The Int requirement can only be achieved (as far as I know) through the Awaken spell, which would mean that the druid's wolf would no longer qualify as a druid's animal companion.

Well, I could be your friend RM2, if you want me to be ;) (I could also be living a double life, like A Scanner Darkly, but you would have to ask the other me for verification)

Thanks for the comments. I knew about the Int pre-req, but was wondering if there was a way around it.

Since the wolf can trip already, with no AoO or chance of being flipped on a failed attempt, I thought there might have been an exception. Like how some classes can get feats without the pre-reqs (i.e. Ranger), so could an animal companion. No dice, though.

Hehe, or get the wolf bitten by a madman and wait for the next full moon :D

So, this idea might move to House Rules, but what about a new feat, almost similar but change it to:

Improved Trip Ability
Pre-req: Must have Trip as a special attack.
Benefit: Gain a +4 bonus on your Strength check to trip your opponent.

Thoughts?

As a house rule, I might be convinced to allow the +2 bonus from Ability Focus to apply to the opposed check in a wolf's Trip special attack. Given how powerful the full-scale Improved Trip is already, I would not be overly eager to add it to a creature with the Trip special attack.
