Wonder Woman being able to fly?

Not really been keeping in touch with any changes in comics and comic characters since I used to read them regularly about 30 years ago! But have been playing Lego Batman with my 7 year old son and discovered that the Wonder Woman character can fly which led me to find out that the comic character now can.

In my mind I have an invisible plane as her means of transport so when did this change in the comics and what's the "in comic" logic for her being able to fly?

quote from Comicvine:

Flight

Granted by Hermes (God of Messengers), this ability allows her to fly at fast speeds. In the silver age she could not fly and had to rely on the Amazon ability to glide on air currents and her invisible plane. Wonder Woman is able to fly at hyper-sonic speeds able to keep up with Superman.

Yeah, I can't remember when she started being able to fly, but it's been a long time. She's basically Superman without the heat vision, but with an added magical lasso these days. I guess at some point they decided the invisible plane idea was a little goofy.

She still uses the plane at least she did during an episode or two of Justice league

Thanks guys - did I also read somewhere that she's now the daughter of Zeus and the God of War???

it's amazing what happens due to Super boy punch, the flash going back in time.....

Hey, Superman wasn't originally able to fly either. He could "leap tall buildings with a single bound!". Over time, it went to straight out flying.

Lego batman 2 is Awesome!!! Best eye-candy, best game-play, best team-work of any of the Lego games. (Except maybe "Undercover" which I haven't played because it was only released for the Wii because of some idiotic gimmick controller, and Tt didn't think to make it port over to other systems.)

Lego Batman 2 is pretty impressive particularly once you get to the "free play" section at the end :)

Thinking about Wonder Woman, she has always been the DC female version of Superman or perhaps Captain Marvel when she derived her powers from blessings from the Greek gods but then Captain Marvel has more than a little Superman in his makeup!

Really? That must have been very early. My first superman comic is from the sixtees and he can already fly in that one.

Shazam was a superman-like character that could only "leap tall buildings with a single bound!", though.

From what I can remember Superman was originally strong but not that strong (think of the classic picture of him picking up a car), "faster than a speeding bullet" but nowhere near light speed, jumped like the Hulk, and tough enough to take artillery fire but not invulnerable.

Clearly he was retooled predominantly in the Silver Age.

Hasn't Captain Marvel/Shazam always been able to fly???
