On GRRM's site it is showing November 8th as being the release date for A Feast of Crows! Am I like the last person on earth to know this? :\

The November date was present on Amazon a while back and - unlike other Amazon dates - this one was delayed until it appeared real. It also meshed with Martin's posted book tour in the US so it seemed real when that info came up in late June.

The October 17 UK date when it came up recently was news however.

I really think, btw, that this staggered publication date for an expensive hardcover is VERY VERY stupid and a book of this kind is going to get e-booked and posted to the net in 48 hours or less.

Which means fans who have been waiting for 5 years will grab an expensive book 3 weeks ahead of time off of the net. While, to be sure, most rabid fans are collectors and will probably get it anyways...

Probably is another word for maybe. Applied across hundreds of thousands of people, clearly, some will not purchase the book in hardcover as a result.

This staggered date stuff made sense in 1995. It was not THAT dumb in 2000.

It will cost the publisher and GRRM 10s of thousands of sales in 2005.

Stupid.

*shrug* Another year, whatever. It's not like I'm sitting here waiting for it ...

Edit: Or did you mean this year?

Edit 2: Heh. Goes to show what my expectations are ...

Yup, I'm pretty excited. Martin, unfortunately, had the cut the book in half, so the West half will be featured in AFoC. The other half, the eastern portion, will be featured in Dance of Dragons.

Martin announced this several weeks back. When I first heard the new date I checked his web site to confirm, and it appears to be true. With every other release date, he would say, BUNK!
You may not be psyched for it right now, however if you start rereading the first three books, when this one comes out you just might be ready. ;)

While this is true in part, you've oversimplified.

The East has been left out for the most part - as has the North.

If you are looking for a good dose of Jon and Bran - you won't find much more than teaser in AFfC.

Not all is lost - there is a little Tyrion and Samwell Tarly appears to be leaving the Wall along with a certain withered Targaryen to points South.

Still - for the most part, Tyrion, Jon, Danny, Arya and Bran are not in the next book. It's mostly all Sansa, Jaime, Cersei and Asha to go with Sam.

And while she's not a viewpoint character from what I understand, a certain widow of a Lord and sister of a groom who is one UNhappy, UNpleasant and UN...well... you know. ;) I don't know who will tell her story - but I'm guessing Brienne.

I expect one helluva game of "Lord of the Crossing".

Good information and I appreciate the correction. But where did you find this information? I basing my information from Martin's own site (the last update that I saw).
