Wooo Hoooo I finally get to play instead of GM!

Dagger75

Epic Commoner
I finally get to play an RPG. Wow I am usually the one that has to GM. Now I get to mingle with commoners and the serfs of the RPG world. Is there anything special I need to know about being a PC?

I was kind of suprised I HAD to follow those house rules the other GM said. And character creation, I mean starting funds and limited equipment choices. Now when I DMed I was able to give the characters I made anything they wanted, but this is going to get a little getting used to.

Plus now I won't know what the hell is going in the game until the next week. How do you players live like this??

I'll just think of it as the King walking amonst his subjects while disguised. That might help.

Hehe. I'd love to give you advice, but it's been some six years since I've played, and then it wasn't - by any measure - a campaign. As is, I just envy you. Lucky sap. ;)

Hmm, I just stepped down from running a game for almost a year and runnning a second game as well. Now I do nothing but play in a couple of games. It's WEIRD. And I sympathize!! Suddenly I have all this EXTRA time on my hands and I have nothing to work on? Always before there was something for me to work on, but now...I'm having a ball.

Take easy, lay back and relax! You don't have to do any of the work, just have fun roleplaying your character and reacting to the situations that come up in the game! I personally like to use the down time to "get-in-touch" with my player-side as we can sometimes get a bit detached when we run games so long and don't play. Take note of what things you like and don't like as a player, I keep note as I try to keep these things in mind when I next a run a game.

When I have the rare opportunity of playing instead of GMing, I like to use it as a chance to find out new things that help players have a good time.

My GMing philosophy is to be the GM that I wish I had as a player.

Wooo Hoooo

I can certainly relate. I shouldn't really complain, as I do have two players that are pretty good about giving me an occassional break at DMing, although each of them usually just run short 4-6 week campaigns.

I used to get my "Player's Fix" at gaming cons, but have been out of that circuit since the birth of my 3rd child a few years back, as getting away for a whole weekend is no longer feasible. I have been really enjoying checking out EN World the past two months as a substitute.

Man, someone started this thread before I could.

I'm in the process of creating my first 1st level PC for ten or twelve years, and the adjustment to being a player rather than a DM is veeery, very strange :)

Playing

Every great once in a while I play to remind myself why I love to D.M. I do enjoy playing Ars, but players get a bit more input into the campaign world than your usual D&D campaign.

Have fun!
