The Big Work

Thanks for the good word. This book has loveingly taken on the title of "The Elephant" around the office. There is so much in her, and it is has caused an endless round of arguements about what pieces should go where that its consumed much of our daylight ours.

I'll probably post another preview in a couple of weeks, about the time it heads off to the printer. Look for Bloody Royal, an adventure module, soon however, as she heads out to the printers today

Dagnab trolls

That module would be called Blood Royal! That's what I get for trying to get out of the office quick like on a Friday!

i'm jsut wondering whats going to be in it? surely the whole book isn't a list of armour pieces with pictures? i mean thiose are cool and all but i'm not sure how they're going to help me build my world. i mean there isn't even a discussion of what periods they're suited to...

Olive,

Good point. And let me answer it with a resounding YES. there is a whole lot more than weapons and armor in the book. That is only a small part of the whole.

The World Builder is divided into four sections, each subtitles a book.

Book One Stock in Trade.
Book Two Geographia
Book Three Dwellings
Book Four Everyday Facts

There are five appendixes as well.

The armor/weapon section is the first part of Book One and the only part completely illustrated. The rest of Book One covers all manner of merchandise, clothing, tak, harness, container, tools etc etc

Book Two, the short one covers terrain features, trees, clouds, some useful charts for storms. Touches on animals (only a few short lists really) and covers your basic vegitation. Also, a magical properties of stones (for d20 and another for LA) and a good chart of trees by biomes and types of flowers.

This last chart I almost tossed out, but having reread Tolkien recently, I was amazed at how many flowers he touches on in his books. He uses them as a tone setting device. Check out the description of Minus Morgul in the Two Towers and you'll know what I mean.

Book Three, the one I'm working on now, covers all manner of habitations, from building materials to types of buildings, including castle and churches and so forth. We won't have many architectural pictures however, as these just supply you with the material to build. That will come later in another Gygaxian world.

Book Four is full of useful things like the tensil strength of rope, to container size to MOH's hardness scale for stones. But more exciting is the full treatment of Herbs and their magical properties and a d20 chart on them to boot. Other charts include crushing resistance, wind speed and so forth.

I will be posting a complete Table of Contents in the coming days, after we are finished moving sections from one book to the next (that would be Davis, he always disagrees with me on placement....and of course I defer to him because he will kick my #*@ otherwise! LOL).

I hope that helps. I'm writing fast so please excuse the typos and what not. And feel free to ask any questions you like, I shall try to answer them as honestly as possible.

I'm now reading through The Canting Crew, gives me hope for World Building. Come Dec. I'll be picking up a copy. (Unless one gets sent my way for review/research purposes.:))

BTW, the Col. sent me a file of the trees to be found in one of the appendices. There are tons of the dang things. Check out your local library for books on trees, arborology, and forestry; it'll help add depth to your games.

its true, one of the most effective settings i've had involved the use of an orchid lined valley. i like to use basic things like the Lonley Plnaet travel guides to help flesh out my worlds... thanks for the response!

Nuggets

OK
For those of you wondering about this book and whats in it, you should only have to wait some few more weeks.

What I will say is that there are nuggets and nuggets and nuggets of information all over the place.

One of my fav is the list of crimes. Not only does this list crimes but it gives a firm foundation for any detective type adventures and a whole slew of more common adventures.

The trees are particularly intersting. As I love tress, the list is really cool. One picks and chooses which ones goes where and it expands descriptions immensly. It goes from a forest to a towering birchwood.

And even some toys!!!!!!!

Neat

Davis - luckily Steve and Todd are doing all the real work while I just criticize them.

This book is sitting at the top of my Must-Get list in bold print! :D

The more I hear about it, the harder it is to wait for the release!!

Aside from releasing the table of contents, will you be releasing another pdf teaser?
