World of Conan - Setting Material?

Thanee

First Post
We have recently started to play a HERO (3rd/4th edition for now, but we will be ordering a few of the 6th edition books soon) campaign set in the World of Conan. One player has an old GURPS Conan softcover book, which has quite some information.

What I'm looking for are suggestions for books / websites which offer a complete overview and possibly also a more detailed look on the world (preferably fluff only, as we use the HERO System for rules).

I suppose there is a whole lot written about Conan and Hyboria.

For example, I found these nifty maps...

Any suggestions for Conan background source material?

i.e. is the Mongoose Conan RPG book useful for this purpose?

I was going to suggest Hyborian Age d20 Campaign Site - hyboria.xoth.net but as you've found the map you know the website!

I actually found the maps via Google picture search, so I havn't been on any of those sites for real. :D

In addition, while a supplement for the Conan RPG, you could do a lot worse than get hold of a copy of the Return to the Road of Kings which is pretty much all setting (and is on sale at the Mongoose website for £10 Mongoose Publishing : For All Your Gaming Needs ...) :)

Will take a look. Thanks! :)

Hey Thanee,

I'll echo Erekose and suggest Return to the Road of Kings. Its pure setting information, broken down state by state. You can get the PDF over at rpgnow.com.

Also, I would suggest that you use this map (your second link): http://www.frpnet.net/yazilar/WindWh...yboria_880.jpg as it is included in the d20 Mongoose book and I believe it is widely considered to be the most accurate.

I would also suggest that you check out this really great Conan campaign website over at Obsidian Portal: The Nemedian Chronicles | Obsidian Portal . There is a section in the wiki that talks about all the different regions and provides suitable real-world equivalents for you to take inspiration from (e.g. Zingara is medieval Spain and Portugal, Aquilonia is Middle Ages France, etc.)

If nothing else, sprinkle the setting with quite a few snake cults, using the "At first, everyone thought they were just another snake cult..." line from the movie as justification. :)
