Christopher Shy, the artist for such beautiful products as D20 Call of Cthulhu, Urban Arcana, and Forgotten Realms: City of the Spider Queen has released World of Ronin Arts: Character Portfolio One, a collection of 12 color paintings that may be used royalty-free in print or electronic publications.

(a) Nice to see Christopher Shy 'clipart'. He's amazing, his stuff is amazing.

(b) Holy price-tag bat-man! This is probably the most expensive non-advertising product on RPGnow. While this may be a deterrent to sales, I feel that this is the right price for a product of this kind. Publisher-use clip-art is typtically SIGNIFICANTLY underpriced in the electronic medium so far, in my opinion.

And Mr Shy's work is FAR from what you picture when you think of clipart.

Well, you get what you pay for. And this is very much under what it would cost to get Christopher to do a dozen of these for your (not meaning "you" Hellhound, more everyone) company (think of closer to $400 or $500 and you're getting near his rates).

It's an experiment we wanted to try so we did. I suspect this will only sell a few copies and, then, most likely to some larger publishers.

Combining this with the Fantasy Layout Templates I released earlier this year I could easily see someone release a professional-looking product even though they don't have the skills or money to do so.
