World's Longest Wait

. . .For the World's Largest Dungeon.

Like others who have griped on the board, I too, am patiently waiting for Amazon to send my belated copy. It seems as though I am receiving a discounted level of service for my discounted price!

Oh well. . . .

My status page still estimates that my copy will arive September 9th.....

What I find amazing is that one of the world's largest booksellers can't get a product out to it's customers within 2 weeks of it's release.

And I really doubt that the info on the product page will help future sales.

"Availability: This title usually ships within 1 to 2 months. Please note that special order titles occasionally go out of print, or publishers run out of stock. These hard-to-find titles are not discounted and are subject to an additional charge of $1.99 per book due to the extra cost of ordering them. We will notify you within 2-3 weeks if we have trouble obtaining this title Learn more"

Reading this gives the impression that the book isn't available, and IMHO will cause a decline in sales (Since I know many RPG players who buy from Amazon).

If I had not of ordered it before the release I would not have bothered to order it from a vendor with this type of disclaimer.

Of course I am also surprised that someone from Alderac has not seen the discussion going on on these boards and said something about why it is taking so long for the World's Largest Dungeon to get to such a large and prominent vendor.

So should we start a pool to try and pinpoint when the book will actually ship from Amazon, or should I buy some special Christmas paper to wrap it in when it does arrive :(

I wish I could say I feel bad for you guys ordering from Amazon, but well, I don't. I order from them all the time and the service varies and I know that going in ahead of time.

You're getting a discount. You're not paying tax. You're not paying s&h.

So if you want to forgo the discount, pay the tax, and get off your butt, you can have it sooner. Of course the means you have to have a FLGS or order from a more reliable online vendor.

I'm in the same boat - have some Amazon gift dollars to spend and figured that a monster dungeon was a good way to go...and am still waiting. Seems they are usually very slow on an RPG stuff, including WotC releases. I'd prefer to shop locally, but the store is a good 40 minutes away and has absolutely no discounts...guess I can wait! (grumble, grumble!)

:)

Meh. I'm in no rush for it to arrive.

And for the price I'm getting it for, big whoop if there's a delay.

[You said it, Joe!]

Well some of us don't have a FLGS and have to resort to ordering online.

I ordered from Amazon as I have in the past and know well their ability to screw things up.

From my experience you either have the items you ordered in a couple days, or you wait forever with limited response from them as to what is going on.

So for me Amazon has been reliable 99% of the time, but on rare occasion you have something like this delay that happens.

That said, I will wait for my order and will bitch a little until it comes.

Since I can't go one town over (or anywhere in the state for that matter) to visit a gaming store I will live with the delay (and the service I am getting), but that still doesn't make it right.

Also, when you are making replies to threads like this remember that not everyone has access to a gaming store.....

I have to agree with you there. Though World's Largest Dungeon I don't see a discount for, so... [edit: I just read that it WAS available for $68]

And you do still have to pay tax on it. You have to file it on your state taxes at the end of the year. Not that people actually do that, but you ARE supposed to.

Man, $100 for an adventure? I don't know about that one...

I've only flipped through it, though. It might be really good. I just can't constitute dropping $100 on an adventure. Usually my players mess up published adventures so much that only half of it is useful as it is. I'd be horrified if they screwed up the adventure around page 100 (out of 8xx).

'Cept that WLD is meant more as a toolbox than as a single, linear module. It's an idea mine. If you can get it at a discount, it'll be useful. Trust me. 'Course, I'm biased. ;)

Here's the glory of it. In my opinion. You can break it down by region, each region suitible for different levels of play. I think there's something like fifteen (sixteen if you split N in two). So the price is high. No dobut. But it's not for one adventure.

And Specter72, yeah, I know not everyone has a local hobby store. You'll note, that in the part you quoted me on as a matter of fact, that I said you could order from another online retailer. Now you'll probably only save $20 bones that way as opposed to $32 + tax + s&h, but well, them's the breaks.

I don't order from Amazon unless the item "Usually ships in 24 hours." This seems to mean that they actually have the item, and shipping has always been fast and reliable for me.

Anything else, including ships in 2 days, or 1 to 2 months, or whatever, appears to be a wild guess which can not be relied upon.
