Worlds & Monsters -- I has it, too!

Did the book mention anything about planar adventures at low level play? I like the idea of starting out a lvl 1 campaign in the Feywild or the City of Brass, but I wonder if these locations will be strictly Paragon+ in their concept.

I'm hating "Shadar-Kai". It's so hack-fantasy-writer, of which there are thousands. The hyphen. The "ai". Gah! Go on, add an apostrophe for good luck. Can we move away from the pre-teen naming conventions?

Was there any mention of what they've done with orcs? We've had both the LotR's movies and WoW since the time 3E was first released. Plus in the latest Drizzt novel they were trying to take orcs in a whole new direction.

I'm very curious to see how these new strong influences regarding orcs have changed our tusky monsters.

You mentioned the City of Brass replacing Sigil, is that simply in concept or is Sigil completely gone?

Do they give any mention on the exact ways the Far Realm interacts with the World, ie: hints of any specific rules?

Besides naming some of the Gods, does it describe them at all?

A few answers while I take a intermission from Dead Man's Chest...

My bullet points on the Shadar-Kai served to miss the whole dynamic between them and the raven Queen. They feared death, so made their 'immortality' pact with her. Then they realized nothing is worse than fading to nothingness and becoming one of her shadows, so they actually prefer death through combat. The pain thing is their way of holding back the melancholy of the Shadowfell from consuming them.
The section states it better than I can paraphrase, sorry.
@Morrus: the name's been around since the 3E Fiend Folio. :)

@Traycor...
City of Brass:
ruled by efreets
per their king, the heat is uncomfortable, not deadly
oldest and largest city in creation
ToEE:
I infer from Worlds and Monsters that there is only one world per D&D game. It states: "At the center of the universe is the world." There is no talk of other planets, alternate prime materials, etc. Whatever world you choose--be it PoL, FR, Eberron, etc., is it. I think ToEE is tied to PoL and assumes that it is the only world.
(I realize it's not a solid assumption. As an example, the dragonborn in FR are from another world.)
Planar travel: again I infer that it's for paragon and epic, but we've seen bits that suggest that visits (most likely unintentional) will occur at heroic levels as well.
Orcs: appear to be massive damage beatsticks. Five writeups in the MM: minion, berserker, archer, mystic, and bloodrager. A couple blurbs I couldn't quickly find that imply they will be more 'hulk smash' while hobgoblins are organized.

No mention of Sigil, but the quote 'a nexus for planar travels' (note they did not state 'THE nexus') made me draw the parallel.

And its does state that the Great Wheel is dead, so I expect Sigil will go with it.

Far Realms: abberants come forth when the Far Realms touch the world. Most can't survive outside the area of overlap. Beholders came from there, but they don't care (no longings for home or master plans like the aboleths or mindflayers.)

Not much on gods besides the names and pantheons already mentioned.

Rechan was almost right in a different thread when he stated 'too much world, not enough monsters.' I think it is 'just enough world, but not enough monsters.' I was really hoping the beholder that graces the cover would get some mention, but no. I know it's not a crunch book, but it would be nice to have a 3E vs. 4E comparison of a couple monsters. I guess they did that with the mindflayer (already discussed in another thread.) Well, I'm happy with R&C and W&M as the products they are, but now I'm ready for some crunch!

I'm hating them for other reasons. First off, it's like they are shoving it down our throats. It's pretty obvious they are some designer's pet monster that they think deserves to be the next Drow, Githyanki, or Mindflayer. Nobody paid attention to it, but they are so convinced it's the next cool monster with "traction" they repositioned it to take a more center stage. I bet you that we'll see a module built around them real early.

The second reason I hate them is that they are soooo emo and goth. Isn't it bad enough we have to put up with the whiney Drow? Now they want us to like these pathetic cutters. What's next, a race of bulemics? Meh, I say... Meh.
