I wonder how much it would cost Kinkos to print them all on cardstock.

I tried to check it out online, but they only offer 20lb, 28lb and transparancy printing. I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that cardstock is a lot heavier than 28lb.

AT, if you figure it out, please let me know. There's a Kinko's in Manhattan that I pass by on my walk from the subway to my office. If I can, I'll stop in and check it out.

Question is, how many sheets would you need to print out to have a useable selection? Not necessarily of the Castles & Keeps product, but Castleworks or one of other *works?

you might be able to provide you own paper stock for them to print on, it just depends on what the machine can handle. Carstock is aroung 100lb, they reccomend 110. My epson printer can handle paper stock up to 1.3mm thick, or .051 inches, more than enough for some good quality cardstock, so check to see if you printer can handle thicker papers, or find out the thickest paper it can handle and print on that.

I'm wondering though, between the ink and the cardstock, if it wouldn't be cheaper to have Kinko's do it? If it's color laser output, you don't have to worry about it getting any moisture on it at the gaming table either.

But you will be buying the cardstock already, as I doubt kinkos stocks 110 lb paper (they might, but it has been awhile) and of course kinko's has to cover their toner costs and machine wear, plus cover all their other expenses. If you do a large run, it is usually cheaper, but your printer's cost per page will depend upon where the break even point is. You may also be able to go to a small print house and have it printed on a digital press, you will have to do a larger print run than at kinko's but if you can share the cost with your friends it will be worth it for the quality of the print and stock.

Edit: also, depending on your inkjet, there are new inks that don't run when wet.

Stopped into the Kinko's here in midtown Manhattan (Lex & 54th). Now, they're probably more expensive here than somewhere that wasn't smack-dab in the middle of NYC, but for a cardstock one-sided color laser print, it's $1.40 (with tax). The attendant behind the counter said if you have a large job you can negotiate a bit. That seems pretty steep. I figure I can do it cheaper using some heavy stock & my inkjet (though it won't be as crisp as a laser).

These are pretty darn cool, has anyone used the other sets in regular play? I'm just wondering how long it takes to set up.

Yes, this stuff is very cool. Look at the FAQ section of his site. He gives you tips on how to do various things and tell you/give you an idea of how long it will take and how many sheets of cardstock.

Construction time varies with experience, but you are looking at hours. At least 4, probably closer to 10. At least until you get enough experience to speed things up some.

I also love his "film" ads. Made me think how awesome it would be to just have a map to use in conjunction with a "video" tour of the cardboard construct.

I haven't actualy tried this, but it sounds right.

Have Kinko's print it out on regular paper, should be alot cheaper. Then use the craft glue that comes in a can. It's kind of like a spray paint type glue. I know 3m makes it. Then just glue those onto the carstock. The glue isn't very wet so you don't have to worry about the paper warping. I've used this stuff to decorate boxes before and it worked great. Might be worth a shot. And should hopefully be cheaper.
