WoT and Dune

It's been a while since I read the WoT books, but when I did, I was struck by certain elements that reminded me of Dune (and its sequels). Aes Sedai=Bene Gesserit, Aiel=Fremen, Rand is in the same warrior-messiah mess as Paul Atreides, and there were some other things that I can't recall...anyways, I was reminded of this by the talk of Terry Goodkind possibly ripping stuff off from the Wheel of Time, and was wondering if anyone else thought this.

Cool link, thanks.

For the record, I wasn't intending to imply that Jordan had ripped off Herbert.

Yeah, there are only so many stories under the sun. And for the most part Jordan tells his tales well, so I'm content.

Many of the kickin yarns are gonna touch on many of the same elements - SW could easily be said to fall into the same category Jedi = Bene Gesserit, Luke/Anakin = Paul, etc... There are dozen of other stories that fit the mold.

Well I know I thought of the Fremen when I read about the Aiel. But it's kind of hard to come up with an insular warrior desert culture that doesn't at least have some echo's of them.
