Wotc 1st Quarter 2003 Releases

Let's see.

Savage Species: I'll probably get it. If creatures with more than 1 HD still don't get x4 skill points at first character level, I'll be greatly annoyed and aggravated. Heck, I might even post a "Bugbear rogues get the shaft!" thread! :eek:

Arms & Equipment Guide: color me vaguely curious, but not very enthused. I recall looking at the 2e armor and weapon guide, and and regretting the time I'd spent just picking it up and looking at it.

Races of Faerun: from what Sean Reynolds has mentioned about this, I'll probably pick it up. Even if I don't run an FR campaign, I'm sure there'll be plenty of stealable stuff for other settings For example, those drow feats & abilities will come in handy when I run certain adventures . . . :)

Fiend Folio: I'm curious to see what exactly is in this. From the Gaming Report story, I'll probably get it.

Though between the FF, MM, MMII, MoF, ToH, CC 1 & 2, Penumbra's upcoming monster book, Eden's monster book, and various Green Ronin fiend books, I don't think I'll actually be able to carry all of the monster books to the gaming table!

Re

I'll take a look at them. Pick up the one's with good content.

I will probably pick up the Fiend Folio for sure.

Arms and Equipment guide only if they manage to put stuff in their I will actually use or information I can use as a DM and player. The non-Forgotten Realms extra rules books have been piss poor in my opinion.

I wish they would just let the Forgotten Realms design team do all their books with Ed Greenwood helping.

<sarcasm>
Yes the Manual of the Planes, Psionic's Handbook, and Oriental Adventures were all truly horrible.
</sarcasm>

I will do what I always do, look at them all and decide which ones are interesting and useful for me to actually purchase for my campaign.

Funny, the Arms and Equipment guide is supposed to be a hardcover but its cover is similar to the softcover guides. Anyway I'm still waiting to see what they can put of any interest in such a book. (and still praying it won't look like its ancestor :D )

OTOH you can be sure I'll buy the three other books. In 15 years gaming I was never able to resist a good looking monster book (oh so go away my money again :rolleyes: ). And the savage species will help me while working on my NPC (monsters with class levels are considered by my players like the best and more dangerous challenges.)

Cya, cya.

The Races of Faerun *MIGHT* make it onto my bookshelf, but if it's minimal fluff with tons of stats/crunch (like Faiths & Pantheons is)...I'll definitely pass...

The other 3 hold no interest for me whatsoever.

I've never had the need for all the gazillions of silly D&D monsters...barring a few classics like the Beholder's, Mind Flayer's etc...most of my foes are human/oid/giants,beasts, an occasional demon/devil, and undead...things derived from mythology and legend or classic fantasy writing....

Equipment guides are lost on me as well, unless we are talking a Sci-fi/SW campaign or a modern era game. If I did want to buy one though, the one Kenzer is putting out looks to be the ultimate for such things....

EDIT: I agree..I wish they WOULD let Eddie G do more Realms books...TSM was great...best FR book since the FRCS....F&P was a dissapointment, and LoD was uninspiring...Magof Faerun was an interesting read, but not terribly useful for me...

I LOVE MotP however..great book, best "core" book WOTC has done...I also didn't think OA was particularly good other than to mine for a few monsters (though subsequent Rokugan stuff is very nice), and while I am not a fan of Psionics, I didn't feel the book was compelling enough to give them another try.....

Thank the stars for the D20/OGL stuff...WOTC just does not put out anything or plan on putting out anything that matches my own tastes/needs lately....

Monsterama

I am a TOTAL sucker for monster books, and I don't know why. I suppose the first step is admiting it, right?

Anywho.

I'll be all over the Fiend Folio. I'll take a look at the Arms and Equipment Guide, and will, probably, buy that.

The other two don't do much for me. I'm not a big Forgotten Rums fan, and I'm not crazy about critter PCs.

You can never have too many monsters in my opinion - even if you never use most of them :) , so 'Fiend Folio' will be a must have for me.
If there's loads of cool bits and pieces I can use in my campaigns, then the other three will be finding their way into my collection - but I'll have to see 'em first. :cool:

that's funny... the only way i'd buy Races of Faerun is if it has lots of crunchy bits (new prestige classes, feats, different racial takes on certain skills, etc.) and absolutely minimal fluff...

other than that, i'll most likely get Savage Species because i like using classed monsters as foes. though i'll cross out "Savage Species" on the cover and paste "Tooth & Claw" over it. ;) (always thought that was the better title.)

no interest in monster books, so no Fiend Folio. might not even buy MM2... (gasp!)

Arms and Equipment only if it looks to have useful stuff the PHB and other supplements have overlooked (maybe vehicle stuff? chariots would be cool!)

I'd personally just want Arms and Armor if they have new metals and special stuff to add to existing magic items, like special gems for added effects to wands, staffs and rods for example.
