WotC announces D&D 4.5!

Not really!

It just occurred to me that tomorrow is the 1st of April, so I wonder what the April Fools gag will be this year on the WotC D&D site. Humor is a great reliever of fear, and 4.5 is a lurking fear for many D&D fans who survived the 3.5 fiasco and who are gearing up for 4E. Okay, if not this year, then next year.

What's your April Fools prognostication?

Hehe. Perhaps! But I think WotC knows that 4e has its dissenters and an April Fool's Joke, if gone awry, would only hurt their publicity. So, I don't think they'll take that route.

BTW, Don't read anything into this. I'm really excited about 4e.

*** SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE "4E" TEAM at WOTC ***

IT WAS ALL A DREAM

We're sorry! We really had you guys going there for a bit. Did you really think we were going to change all the rules of the game you've come to love over the past 8 years? Psh. I mean, really. No, in fact what this has been is a bit of an exercise for our marketing department here at WOTC. We wanted to see what all we could get D&D players to do by announcing a new edition, and it turns out, really quite a lot! We were especially astonished at the sales of preview books like Races & Classes. Who knew we'd be able to sell stacks and stacks of what is really a glorified marketing pamphlet? For real money? Well we do now!

Seriously. That diagonal movement thing? We thought we'd lose everyone there. But no, people kept biting. We couldn't stop it. Frankly, there's a fair bit of doubt at the water cooler whether this memo will stop it, either. We figure if this "4E" business keeps going we'll just sell preview books for the next couple of years.

So, in closing, there is no 4E coming, please return to your television sets, there is no new edition planned and there will be no new edition for at least a couple years down the line. In June, we'll be releasing The Book of Eighteen Swords and Spiritjaunt, the setting guide to adventures in the Inner Planes, featuring new feats and eight new prestige classes. Thanks for reading and have a great April!

I'm still waiting on the My Little Pony Revised Edition. I've played the first one long enough to know how horribly broken it is. I mean really how long can this system continue without proper rules on how to incorporate Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, or Smurfs.

I already announced 5th edition at the judge metting (before R&D) at DDXP last month. They have already been putting 5th edition rules into the 4th edition preview materials so you've already been testing it and it will come out next year.
