WotC announces 'Rise of the Underdark' campaign

Unless you're playing Dungeons & Dragons Online, I can't imagine this needing to sound good to you. It's not like anyone considers D&DO in any way official, right? It's just an opportunity for folks playing that game to get some Lolth/Drow action in. Harmless.
Since there are a fair number of DDO players who enjoy the Eberron aspect of the game, shoehorning in the all-encompassing blob of Forgotten Realms drow -- and thus overwriting the only official take on drow since Drizzt became a big star to do something different with them is disappointing at best, and certainly unnecessary.

If they wanted a big drowapalooza for DDO, it would have taken no real effort to make it Eberron-specific. Surely there's no one who thinks there aren't enough spider-themed drow adventures out there.

A little "Year of the Drow." Cool! I wonder if this goes well if we'll see other D&D villains given the "full blitzkrieg" treatment -- I can imagine a multi-product-line "Nine Hells" campaign, for instance, where there's board games about killin' Asmodeus and campaign settings taking place in Hell, and expansion books all about devils...or lots of other stuff, too.
If they weren't starting with an Underdark-based villain (and certainly the most popular one), I'd say the mind flayers would be a great choice for a future installment.

There's probably a lot of fun that could be had with a doppleganger/changeling/shapeshifters war, too.

I'm all for this kind of mega marketing thing, but drow have been so freaking overdone lately.

Didn't we just finish the "Year of the Drow" or something?

Sounds pretty keen to me! I like how they're going "full blitzkrieg" on this and hitting every major product line they have.
Don't they do this every few months? Like when the latest book, the D&D encounters season, the newest Dungeon Tiles release, and a month of DDI articles were all Elemental Chaos related? Or before that when they were all Neverwinter related? Or now when they're all Waterdeep related?

Sounds pretty big, big enough that I wonder why they're doing it now with the looming news of 5th ed.? I haven't kept up with news though so might be missing something.

They do, but not usually with this many products. It's too bad the D&D minis game wasn't planned for the Elemental release... elemental minis are soooo much more versatile.

The preview video is ok. Its not quite the voice I would imagine for this particular goddess of evil. But still, its better than nothing.
