WOTC article in Business Journal

First Post
I didn't see any other notices of this, so I thought I'd point out that in the current Puget Sound Business Journal, there is an article on Wizards of the Coast and some of their recent restructuring by the new CEO. They don't say anything really about D&D but did have this to say about Star Wars:

"Wizards recently successfully renegotiated its "Star Wars" license with Lucas License Ltd., extending the license 10 years until 2018 and winning an $85 million reduction in fees, he said. "

The entire article can be found here:

Cool, I wonder if te reduction of fees will trickle down to us, those $30 156 page HC are grossly over priced (the only RPG books I actually feel that way about).

Do you think WotC cleared anywhere NEAR $85 million in profit over the past two years from the Star Wars RPG? I would be stunned if they did. The game is good, but it doesn't sell well, as near as I can tell.

Remember the the license extends to all Star Wars products from WotC. That also includes their CCG's.

That might also turn out to be an 85 million reduction over the life of the license. It is not from the first two years profit.

It'll be a while, since we still have loyal d6 gamers out there. Then again, it would help if Georgie-boy would put out a better Star Wars film.

I should know. Decipher is having the worst time selling their Star Trek RPG what with that crap airing on UPN.

I respectfully disagree. $30 is just about right given today's market. I am glad that the Hardcover books have not seen the price spike that normal paperbacks and hardbacks have seen on the mass market.

Given that amount, I seriously believe that the reporter is confusing WotC for Hasbro as a whole.

Henry: Actually, from *everything* (and this includes people inside WotC, people who were inside, and now outside, and people who know people inside) I have heard, Star Wars RPG is not only meeting their expectations, but FAR exceeding them. Star Wars RPG is doing quite well for WotC.

Hmm.

For every upside in business, there is a downside.

In case you haven't checked GamingReport.com web page (IMHO, the daily "e-news" for gamers like me), you should read the article regarding Wizards of the Coast losing the Pokemon license after the two releases.

Oh, well. It has to come to an end sometime (finally!).
