WotC boards down - Technical Difficulties?

Their boards are now up, just in case anyone was waiting to visit.

Until it needs to go down for maintenance.

Funny, Wizards boards has to go down every night for a couple of hours due to maintenance, but not once did this board has to do that on a daily basis.

Their Forum-Fu is a sub-set of the famous Sna-Fu.

To have so much downtime and still be unable to get it right, you might thing that they let interns handle the boards and all attached hard- and software in their spare time or something.

Their board goes down nightly for backups, something I haven't had the time to write a script for here, but I need to do once we get some more hard drive space. There's also an archiving script running that moves old threads into a separate db.

I'm sure that won't mean that you'll have to take the boards down every night for an hour or more, though.

I may misremember things, but I think I have heard people talking about real-time backups for databases.

I'm also sure that you will manage to do the backups properly, without having a flat 5+% downtime here.

For the last several days, they've had a notice up about downtime starting Thursday morning. I think it's supposed to last a day or so, but I could be misremembering.

The notice said that the boards would be down for 25 hours whilst the servers were moved to a different physical location.

That being said the boards were actually down for rather less time than that. A refreshing change for WotC.
