MonkeyGod Enterprise releases "Frost and Fur"
WotC is releasing "Frostburn."

Mongoose releases "Complete *Race* Books"
WotC is releasing "Races of Stone," supposedly the first in a series of race books.

Goodman and FFG both release books on arial combat.
WotC includes airships in Eberron.

Mongoose, Sword & Sorcery, and a bunch of other folk release guides to the various classes.
WotC releases "Complete Warrior" and "Complete Divine," with two more to follow.

It's not Gygax, and it's not a conspiracy. It's the fact that D20 companies and WotC both want to print books that they think will sell, and sometimes the concepts overlap.

Y'know how Hollywood sees a trend, and jumps on it? Like if fantasy movies and superhero movies are doing well, they come up with more of the same? It's kinda like that. :)

Hmm - a almost two years later, and 3.5E compared to 3E rules.

Why would a guy who HATES the OGL so VERY much and who considers it to ultimately be the total DOOM AND DESTRUCTION of D&D release OGL products? Is he a money-grubbing hypocrite?

In any case, it looks like WoTC is using the OGL to do free market research.

It's not that Gygax hates it, it's more that he considers it a serious tactical mistake by WotC. If he was in charge of D&D, he would not have released the OGL, and stuck to the old model where only WotC produces D&D material. However, since he isn't with WotC, (and is a competitor, in fact) he isn't going to avoid taking advantage of that 'mistake'.

To be honest, I think that he was scarred by how he lost control of TSR, and his reaction is that he should have maintained a tighter grip over things. Thus WotC's deliberate loosening of control would seems almost insane to him.

But that's just random armchair psychology, and may or may not be true. It's just how I interpret his comments.

Yea... WotC too understands though that adventures don't sell that well anymore.

I'll stick with Dungeon (where Gary just put out a kind of big, if not redundant, scenario) :0
