To be honest, I think that he was scarred by how he lost control of TSR, and his reaction is that he should have maintained a tighter grip over things. Thus WotC's deliberate loosening of control would seems almost insane to him.

Frankly, I think Gygax displayed paranoia over loss of control long before he was removed from TSR, as displayed by (among other things) some of the bizarre things he said at the time about other RPGs developed in response to D&D.

Mongoose releases Conan
WotC releases "Unearthed Arcana"

jh

I would rather have said: Monte Cook releases "Arcana Unearthed", then WotC releases "Unearthed Arcana". (Unless it was some kind of humor I am unable to understand... )

Yea... WotC too understands though that adventures don't sell that well anymore.

Scuttlebutt is (and it's just scuttlebutt) that one thing the folks at WoTC like about OGL is that somebody else releases boatloads of low-margin products like "adventures". Joe Nobody Game Designer Wannabe can potentially afford to release adventures more than can WoTC. Joe's overhead is much lower, and if Joe's adventures sell well enough (some of those nobodies are pretty darn talented), he'll make just enough to make it worth his while. The same amount of profit at WoTC would get the product cancelled.

I'll stick with Dungeon (where Gary just put out a kind of big, if not redundant, scenario) :0

It's more Rob's dungeon than Gary's, but still...

I quite understand and mostly agree with Wizards' stance on adventures, and I really love Dungeon (I'm going to be running a Dungeon adventure tonight).

Cheers!

It's not one of the things WotC likes about the OGL, it's the main reason the OGL/d20 idea was developed. Ryan Dancey has stated as much in the past.

Yeah, I know there's no conspiracy (or is there?). Just having a joke; 'tis all.

But what about that WG7 Castle Greyhawk. There's gotta be a conspiracy in that one against the EGG! :p
