WOTC Dungeon Encounters

I am trying to get enough people here locally to commit to the Wednesday night Dungeon Encounters here in my area and I was curious what other people thought. Are you interested? Do you care? Are you a 4E fan, but don't like the idea of a weekly 1-2 encounter skirmish?

This is NOT a thread for an Edition War, if you do not play 4E, then there is really no reason to post here.

Thanks!

Curious why this is posted in the Pathfinder section.

You might also get more feedback if you included your location. I run a Encounters program at our FLGS with moderate success, we have 4-5 tables per week running since the program started, with mostly the same players.

I enjoyed what Encounters I ran or played in, although the Encounters adventures have certain warts and flaws that are partially the result of the format and are partially the result of the fact that it doesn't seem like anyone does much of an editing pass on them.

I was very disappointed when my local FLGS stopped supporting Encounters on Wednesdays- the owner is just a bit too busy or flaky or both to keep up with it, I guess. I wish I could get the packages and run them myself, but AFAIK the only way to do so is to be a retailer. Sadly, there isn't another place with any gaming room in my area that qualifies. :(

This isn't entirely correct. You can get the packages, but you have to have a retail location to play. I.e., if your FLGS is ok with you doing all the work, just call your WotC rep and let him know you'll be organizing (you have to set yourself up as a WPN organizer, first). If the FLGS is ok with it, then WotC will have the package shipped to the store for you. It's how I do it. My FLGS is still not convinced this whole "internet" fad is going to take off, so I handle everything outside of putting the tables in place on Wednesdays.

Just some food for thought.

More food for thought: 4e Home Encounters has just released its third weekly encounter. This is a community-driven program to create something similar to the official D&D Encounters for people who don't have a store to play in. So, if you're not able to get the official Encounters program, this one is a free alternative.

Their web site is here, and my review of running the first two encounters is here. I'm not affiliated with the project or anything - I just think it's a cool idea.
