WotC did a conversion of the Dwarven Chanter Kit.

for reference purposes, from The Complete Bard's Hanbook, p 54-63:

Dwarven Chanter
Elven Minstrel
Gnome Professor
Halfling Whistler

the difference between then and now is that these races can be bards without having to take special kits like these. however, as illustrated by Wil's article, making these into PrCs adds some interesting depths to humanoid bards.

And there were pseudo-paladins.

sort of. unlike the bard kits, the paladin ones were only suggested one-paragraph ideas on how to DIY.

apparently, gnomes weren't even considered.

I liked Halfling Whistler better but this was nice. I would definitely like to see a Gnome Professor conversion.

Actually that Dwarven Chanter looks like it could be a lot of fun, primarily for it's 10th level chant. Considering you'd need to be 15th level, I could easily see some crazy dwarf chanter with a buffed con of 24 or so leveling castles.

My thoughts: they are going through the other ones to culminate with the Gnomish one, since Bard is favoured class. IOWs, they might make the last one special in some way
