WotC Mailbag Podcast up

Did I catch that they mentioned there are TWO controller classes... Is this a hint the Sorc isn't a controller? Did I misunderstand?

Hey Mike. Great podcast. It's always a highlight for me when I get to listen to you guys talk D&D on my way into work.

I found the skill challenge discussion to be very useful. I plan to use the idea of thinking of it like a scene from a novel in my game Wednesday. I'm turning one of the encounters from Pyramid of Shadows (the stairwell) into a skill challenge. The party has to navigate some stairs that are trying to eat them along with a pair of gargoyles and a harpy. I plan to describe it like the Baradur scene from Lord of the Rings.

In general my group isn't a big fan of skill challenges but I don't know that I'm running them right. I can't quite get them to put a finger on what they don't like so its difficult to figure out what to fix. Generally, the better I have planned out the challenge, the more people like it. Also, they want them quick. Any more than two rotations at the table is too much.

Anyway, great podcast! Well worth the price...

yea....becuse Mr mearls wouldn't forget something....:p

Haha, nice job with the multiquote =)

I might've ignored that bit, but seems like with a few people in the room, it would've been brought up! I think that class is the one I'm most eager to learn about as it occupies a role that is unfamiliar to us (controller) but with the same power source. My ears were perked for any info before the preview!

I enjoyed this one very much. I thought [mike's] ideas on guns were inspired. Nice to see someone thinking outside the very limited historical box.

Also, any word on skill challenges is always good. I love them but constantly look to ways I can improve on them. Solid info given to people struggling with them.

Look forward to the next one.

Oh, man. I hope they do come out with a necromancer class. The necromancer is my favorite fantasy archetype... being able to play one in 4e would simply be all too sweet.
Good podcast, overall. I really liked the discussion of skill challenges, and the example of bribery. It seems like the key is just to follow that old "Yes, and..." rule from improv. Don't say no; if your players have a cool idea, reward them for it and run with it.

No, I was surprised by this also, but either way, I wouldn't be surprised if this is an oversight or if Rich Baker's information is now outdated. Makes me wonder what role a sorcerer would potentially be? A striker would be the only other obvious choice from my perspective.
