[WOTC] Minis Spotlight

I don't mind random content but I would never buy a game with it's content hidden from me. What they should do (if they had the cojones) is to pack the minis randomly in a box with a see-through lid.

I haven't read through this entire thread so this may already have been covered, but it sounds like WotC is trying to appeal to two different target groups. The first is the "WizKid Collector" who just has to "catch 'em all!" These are the ones who don't mind the randomness of the packages -- heck, that's half the fun.

It's the secondary market that this will potentially create that WotC hopes will interest the "Roleplayer." From what I understand, the rarity of a given monster fig is in proportion to their rarity in the D&D world. For instance, an average D&D party doesn't usually encounter a single goblin, it's more like 10. So goblins are going to be a Common pull. Conversely, figs like Beholders are rare. The secondary market will hopefully allow a DM who, knowing the party will be facing a horde of goblins, run down to his FLGS, rummage through their singles bin, and buy 10 goblins for maybe a buck a piece, maybe less.

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me.
