i might just have to add that the monsters from "old empires" are next on my "to-do" list of conversions for the Creature Catalog.

KenzerCos Harvest of darkness module (official D&D though not WotC) has a ghoul template, four progressing templates of pseudo vampires and a pseudo ghoul template. Ravenloft 3e has a mummy one as well.

Not to mention that any variation from the original DDG (which covered minor deities like Anhur at the expense of major ones like Hathor) tends to set people off.

What gets me is that the pencil drawing at the beginning of the Egyptian chapter features Khnum (the ram guy) quite prominently, yet he's not even mentioned in the text. That, and that p. 137 says that Bast combats Apep when he tries to overtake Re's barge, but I've read it was Set, of all gods...

I just wanted to chime in and add that Sean K. Reynolds posted a neat variant for the MM's vampire. Its more along the lines of Buffy or Blade, and I'm thinking of using it in some fashion.
