WotC warped book covers...

Volaran

First Post
I just picked up the Unapproachable East at my friendly local gaming shop, and noticed it posesses a warped cover. The last several WotC hardcovers I've bought have also had similarly warped covers. Is this a widespread phenomenon, or is my local game shop, and possibly myself, simply the victem of a very low powered curse?

The local Hastings here (a big chain bookseller) had in some fiend folios that were tragically warped in my opinion. All of the ones they had out on the shelf were reallt bent to a curve.

Both my Fined Folio and my Arms & Equipment Guide have warped covers.

I've noticed it as well on the last 2 or 3 WOTC hardcovers I have bought. It could be for a variety of reasons, but my guess is that they are using a lesser quality cover stock in the books, to cut down on the manufacturing costs.

When I worked in publishing and had to deal with production costs and sales projections, an easy way to cut a few extra dollars out of a books production cost was to cut back on the paper stock or cover stock quality. Not good for the overall life of the book, but if you need to meet a budget, its one thing you can do.

My copies of the Arms & Equipment guide, Fiend Folio, and a couple of the other recent books are like this. A little time in a moderately tight bookshelf has straightened mine out, though. I bought the bent copies to support my FLGS over the B&N or Waldenbooks, but they were fixable.

Surely every gamer has a big stack of books they could sit at the base of for a day or so?

I hope WotC fixes this, though - nobody wants to buy new books that look smegged up.

Crap! I better get cracking, I'm still lulling somewhere in the 2900's! :)

None of my WotC books have warped covers, BTW. My Monsternomicon has slightly bowed outwards covers, which has developed since I bought it (for some reason.)

I emailed Anthony Valterra on 4/15 about this subject, and this was his reply:

I'm forwarding your e-mail to our production person. I'll have him poke the printers.

I'd noticed it in several different shops around the country, on all WotC books published this year. I'm concerned about the 3.5 hardcovers; if the curved boards appear on those books, WotC has lost $90 from me until the second (hopefully corrected) printing.
