Ok,

...are they ever going to fix it so it's accessible for the majority of the time?

I know it's not just me, right? I mean, we've all had a ton of problems accessing it from time to time - I know it's not just my ISP as I try accessing from home, via Cable Modem, and from work, at HP (I'm an internal support IT geek).

I'm not trying to be a jerk about things, but I do like to use it as a resources - plus, when they have surveys that I feel would impact the products I want (such as the Silver Marches survey) I would, kinda, like to participate - I'm not crazy, or alone on this, am I?

Steve Jackson Games, who I'm not a fan of but I respect them, keeps their site pretty much up and running.

White Wolf does too, as well as Fantasy Flight Games, Eden Studios, Kenzer, and even individuals likeMonte Cook, Sean K. Reynolds, and even Gygax.

Are they just using an abundance of bad code? Lousy server? Or just an f'ed over staff?

I know, a rant, but it has kinda ticked me off again, recently, and I felt the need to share.

I seem to remember a time when these very same questions were asked of EN World...

As soon as the Secret Masters finish their secret reordering of the WotC Hierarchy, replacing the management with cyborgs, and fly off in their black helicopters, the WotC site will probably be restored. Unless that's just what They want us to think...

I agree. I just tried to access the site and it's still down. It would at least be nice for them to give the reasons why they continue to have problems keeping it up.

I think it is annoying, but I don't think it is fair to compare the WOTC website to other game companies' sites.

With Pokemon, MTG, and D&D- they must get a lot more traffic then many of the others combined.

Of course, not that that is an excuse.

Maybe they sold their server in the rush of selling everything thats not bolted, or perhaps they round filed it with a bunch of the setting submissions by accident, or even perhaps, they cancelled their server contract/subscription?

You're right. They've got much deeper pockets than other game companies. Consequently, it's not fair to the other companies.

Their site should be better than their competitor's sites, even with massive amounts of traffic. I personally know someone who runs a gaming site that gets over 1,000,000 hits a month--on a $4,000 server. I would think (and hope) that WotC would spend a little more on their server. If not, fine--that's their business. But they'll frustrate their customers (and I am a big WotC customer).

The ENnies voting booths closes soon. You can actually vote for someone else and let WotC know that their site is not the best gaming web site.

If you can't get to the content, then all the content doesn't matter.

Yes, the whole idea of the ENnies is to vote for the most deserving. While WotC has a mammoth amount of content, if one can't get to it, one can't use it. Personally, I don't often have a problem getting to their site. I usually drop in when Morrus posts news about it, or at least once a week, to pick up the new installments of the weekly stuff. I rarely have any problem getting to the content, but then I don't try to get there everyday.

I'm glad other people get annoyed at this - not just me. I probably manage to get on it about one in ten attempts, and even then there always seems to be something not working.

A company this size should be in a better position than most to keep their site working properly. Yes I would expect problems occasionally, but this has been going on for ages. It's at a point where I can't be bothered trying any more - if other people are starting to feel that way too it's a bad sign.
