WotC_Shoe: A tiny, tiny hint on new weapons post-PHB

TerraDave

5ever, or until 2024
I'll be able to offer the players a different selection of weapons that won't be showing up until well after the PHB.

And thats it! Could be either in Martial Power, Tome of Treasures, or somewhere else...

From here.

I wonder if this a ploy to sell more books or if I should be worried that 4E will be shipped rather unfinished.

Putting new material in new books? Definitely a ploy. Just like the scary-evil Sword and Fist, Arms and Equipment Guide, and Complete Warrior.

I don't know if you mean that as sarcasm, but yeah, the ever growing list of splatbooks was one of my problems with later 3rd edition. Alot of dross with the pearls in that list.

It's just easier to pump out splatbooks for a new edition. There's still tons of stuff that hasn't been covered yet, afterall. It doesn't take that much imagination to start filling out basic archtypes that haven't been converted yet. It's late in the edition cycle when all the easy stuff if done that you start getting the really whacky niche stuff.

Quality on the other hand..I'm hoping the initial splats have more in common with Complete Warrior than Sword and Fist...

Are really wondering if a RPG company is planning to release suplementary game books with extra content after the launch of their main core rulebook?

Sorry, I don't want to sound sarcastic: Yes my friend, it is a ploy to sell more books...

That is my default assumption. I just wonder if it isn't also (partially) because the Designers couldn't get everything done before the deadline (They said it themselves that, for example for the monk they had no idea what to do with him) so they push that things back into splatbooks.

Welcome to capitalism.

I don't think it's because of deadlines so much as due to space limitations. They only have so many pages to deal with all the powers, the rituals, the feats, skills, classes, races and combat rules. If they're adding the magic items to the PHB as they've said, they're already taking up extra space. So if anything, it's probably a matter of space limitation within the set number of pages they have available for the PHB. That is a much larger concern than deadline timing.
