Would it be wise???

I just had my player ask me if he could multi-class in our low-magic CONAN campaign into a fighter-monk with continuing progression (normally against monk rules).

Would it be wise for me to let him do this?

According to what some of the 3rd edition game designers have said, the monk/paladin multi-classing limits were added into the game because play-testers specifically asked for it but that it doesn't actually have any game-balance reasoning behind it. Taking that into account I don't believe your game would suffer any balance issues if you were to allow it.

So in answer to your question, if it makes your players enjoy the game more then yes it would be wise IMHO. Making games fun is wise. :)

I would suggest using the Defender class from Midnight instead of the DnD monk. The Defender gets a lot of the same ability trees, but not the supernatural powers that monks get. Most of that doesn't fit too well with Conan anyway (btw, which i own and love dearly)

It would not be unwise, and in fact, the Oriental Adventures supplement for D&D 3rd Edition revokes the monk multiclassing restrictions, because they don't fit the flavour of an Oriental game. If your player really wants to, then go for it! I'm always game for anything that will make my players happier, because it means that later they are more likely to forgive my GMing mistakes. :D
