Would Luna Lovegood make a great Jedi Padawan (then later on, a great Jedi Knight) ?

Hey there Edna,

Dunno about Luna being a good Jedi. Leaving ability scores aside, I think that the one attribute that a good Jedi has that Luna lacks is self-awareness. She doesn't seem to be aware of how she comes across to other people, or their reactions to her. In other words, she doesn't seem to be "aware of her surroundings" or "attuned to the living force." Those two attributes, at least, would be important for any Jedi.

Even Zane Carrick, a really bad Jedi by most standards, manages to be aware of his surroundings and attuned to the force enough to unravel the Jedi Covenant conspiracy.

Luna is an interesting character, but she's a follower, and only follows Harry because he's got the patience and the capacity to try to penetrate her interpersonal fog.

(And, to be clear, I attribute most of her character flaws to her father).

Seriously? Luna Lovegood as a Jedi?

It always seemed rather blatant to me that Luna was supposed to represent the magical equivalent of a mildly autistic kid (possibly Asperger's). Autisic people can be some of the most creative, intelligent, world-changing people there are, but they are almost never the lethaly armed security force that the Jedi are.

Even forgetting that diagnosis, you still have to account for the fact that, despite her observational skills, she has the attention span of a puppy. Despite her "charisma" and honesty, she has the rhetorical skills of a 6 year old (her ability to decern lies is about this level, too). And despite the wisdom and intelligence you claim she has, Luna lacks one of the most important skills in the world: common sense. She would probably believe that the Sith were made up and that squirrels were the biggest threat to the Republic if someone printed it in a tabloid.
