  • No. I would never buy a boxed set. Maybe if it were a hardback.

like you, i tend to heavily customize most things i use for my campaigns (i am an inveterate home-brewer). however, if this levels 1-20 mega-adventure were fairly well-written, i'd be tempted to just run it straight -- it pretty much is an entire campaign and setting unto itself, so i'd see less need of trying to adapt it into an existing campaign.

i guess what i'm saying is that the more complete it is, the less messing around i'd feel like doing to it, and the more likely i'd consider buying it.

I'd just like to say that you did a good job of putting into words what I was thinking.

If I where actually going to pusue something like this, this is what I would do:

6. Treasure and Experience distribution made to match the charts in the DM guide.

those aren't OGC.

I think it's really questionable. I know a lot of people don't start at 1st level, so the option to start at a higher level would be needed for those that didn't start at 1st.

I'd say a good combination of combat, role-playing, and puzzle-solving would appeal. Ultimately, the plot would have to be absolutely world generic, otherwise it would turn a lot of people off right off the bat.

I'm of the "I never purchase modules" camp, but there are a few I am considering getting because I believe I can integrate them into my current campaign with little difficulty. But, because of the uniqueness of the setting, many adventures simply don't fit at all.

That's the challenge with modules, or campaigns as it where.

I would think it could work, but I couldn't see many people paying more than $40 for it. I know I wouldn't.

I think you misunderstood. You can write an adventure that is designed around those tables. You just can't put the tables in the module.

There is nothing wrong with making sure that the characters should have about 900gp at the start of 2nd level for example.

I think you would *want* it to railroad you to some degree. Otherwise, why would you buy such a product?

Certainly, in order to use this, one's players would also have to buy into the concept - not just the DM.

When I ran Bruce Cordell's "Return to the Tomb of Horrors" my players looked forward to the module as written - they *wanted* to be challenged by the module as presented.

Now that I have a small child, I certainly do not have the time I once did to create as much outside of a module format, so I'd welcome something like this.

Also, I guess I'm just lucky in that my players enjoy the game no matter if they are "railroaded" or not.

Normally I just lurk but I felt that I had to chime in.

I think this is a great idea. In fact I wish more "campaign settings" were set up this way. For example, set up a an entire region of the FR with a long adventure for the PCs. As many people have post, I also have a hard time putting together my own home brew stuff, so much of what I play is doctored from existing material, so something like this that is made with quality would be very appealing.

As far as railroading, in a way my PCs are railroaded for every adventure. If they don't feel like following the adventure threads I lay out, then there really isn't a game. I don't think it would be impossible to have more products like this. For example, in my "spare" time, I've been writing something that spans brings my characters from 12th to 20th level. But this is more notes. I'd love to spend $60 to spare myself the time for something my players and myself would enjoy.

When I envision this, I picture something like the Desert of Desolation module. It is a small campaing setting on to itself. I don't think something of this scale can be so generic that it fits anywhere, but rather that is it's own small setting.

I've been tempted by this idea myself. Of course with the financial backing I have, I'd be able to offer a word document at best. But now I feel like I'm beginning to ramble.

I voted no.

I rarely buy adventure modules. But if it was filled with lots of cool pictures of female half-ork barbarians with their tusks showing... maybe.

On a related note, can anyone tell me where I can get centrefolds of half to three-quarters-naked half-orks with their tusks showing? I have this "friend" who has a really weird fetish.
Umm, nevermind.

For those of you saying that 'it couldn't be done' let me direct you to the 'epic' campaign Enemy Within for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. This link shows the first part of the series with links to the other 4 books (the last is still in development sadly). I played in this in is first incarnation many years ago and it is possibly one of the most well crafted epic storylines I have seen. While the books being released now fall short of what is described in this poll all 5 of them together are easily over $80 US and would give you about 3 years of play time (we only got to book 3 before our gaming group had to breakup - I have the original 5 books and love swiping ideas, NPCs and plot hooks from them for my other games).

That being said I would, of course, have to read reviews and look over any such product before plunking down my cash - a dedicated website with lots of picutres, playtest notes and a forum discussion would help a lot too in making my decision to buy or not.

As far as price goes I generally am not to concerned with it but past $60 US (about $90 here in Canada) it would become a barrier mainly because I wouldn't be able to buy any other gaming stuff that month! :D
