It depends; how many people? Among four people, that's 7,500 GP, each. That's about 4th - 5th level wealth, too much, IMHO, for almost third level. Even among five people, that's still too much for newly-5th-level PCs. I guess I'm voting "No".
Sure, as long as it's not each, and there's a good plot-reason for it.
Speaking of crazy payoffs, I was in a game in which the neophyte DM gave the party a chaos diamond (DMG price: 180,000 gp) at 2nd level. Needless to say, that game didn't last long.
In principle, yeah, not a problem. It doesn't break versimilitude the way a 3 million gp treasure could, and even if they spend it they'll only be overpowered for a few levels.
If it's plot related, why not? I think the party's haul last game I ran was close to that including all found, and they were 3rd level (made 4th when they got back). In another campaign, at 5th level, our characters were put in a situation where money was not a problem, but we were never given many opertunities to spend it. I still had most of it when we finished at 18th.
the GM of the BESM d20 game I was in gave the party about 300 million credits (it was a sci fi setting and that's what was used for cash) just to see what we would do when we didn't have to worry about money.
we showed him...
we formed a corperation and went to work cleaning up the galaxy.
at the time the game came to an end, we were roughly 12th level, had employed half the work force of the galaxy, bought EVERY being that had been created specifically to be slaves, freed them and were in the process of destroying the corrupt government.
saddly the group fell apart due to out of character squabbeling. He did say however that he sure wasn't expecting us to do what we did, but it made the game more entertaining then what he had originally planned.
... then there was the fact that we bought a moon just to hollow out to keep our enemies guessing. They figured there was an alien super weapon there and ended up buying it from us. That gave us the capatal we needed to build our new base, a Ringworld ^__^
Yes, as a matter of fact I would. Ten players in the game divided by 30 k gp equals 3k gp per character. As a general rule of thumb, I never give the players more than 500 gp over their next level according to Table 5-1 in the DMG. I don't think that doing it can hurt the game in the long or short run.
Sure I would... figure they won't be finding that much stuff for a while, but why not? If it's all tied to a plot that's even better?
I'd place some limits on what they could buy - mostly restrict the 1 use items. IME, PCs with spell scrolls well above their level can cause all manner of problems.
I have to say I would - provided there was some plot to it and not just "Here have cash". If you have a reason for this and a direction to go in then it certainly isn't anything to woory about... a little overpowered maybe but nothing game breaking. The only risk is that you might set a bad precedent but as long as you don't follow through with that then there shouldn't be any problems.
No, because it sets a really bad precedent for the future. I would give the party something in the value of 30,000 gp that could not be (easily) sold, such as a house to serve as a base of operations.
