I would probably roll the dice, if rather than rolling for a specific misfortune, problem or skeleton, those lists were suggestions and I could choose or, along with the DM, work out my own version.

I don't mind randomness in characters, but not so much when it comes to the backstory. I want that to be my own.

I think some tables with some roleplaying hooks to give you ideas to add to your character off the bat are fun. The the whole leveling thing doesn't float my boat, though.

It's a very neat idea, but no, I wouldn't do it.

Level discrepency is a major pain in the ass, both for the players and the DM.
