Would you spend $100 for a monster book?

Yes I would but there again, I might not.

At 1000 pages, it does seem interesting. However, I think for $100 I'd be looking at quality and comprehensiveness more so than sheer quantity.

To be frank, I could not imagine the art being excellent and this is a big thing for me. I like being able to show the PCs something. MMIII had some absolutely spectacular monster art in it that transferred into some really interesting ideas and abilites. Unfortunately as has been shown by Mr Cooper, the stats blocks were all over the place. To wrap this all up into 1000 pages, you could not help but think that the chance of significant errors would be enormous. We will wait and see.

Again, with the 1000 pages worth, it seems like they're throwing everything at us in the hope that enough of it will appeal. A viable approach but I'm not too sure that it will hook that many people into it.

I would only be tempted if it were the greatest, most creative, most beautiful and useful monster book ever.

Chances of that happening...? Slim indeed...

A'koss.

The art would have to be fantastic. We're talking full centerfold spreads of the Baatorian Bikini Team, stuff like that.

*cough*

But the concepts for the monsters would have to be just as well polished as the art, with ecology details more important than crunch. I'd be looking at quality over quantity for that price for a book.

No. And when I say no, I mean "OH HELL NO."

Ditto!

All I had to read was the title question to know how to reply to this one. I don't care if the book is printed on gold leaf and inked in Gary Gygax's blood.* :p $100 for a monster book is crazy!

* This turn of phrase in no way implies that I would wish harm upon the great alpha nerd G.G. ;)

I have no plans on getting it, though I'm happy to have my mind changed after seeing the product.

At 1000 pages I'm interested in how the thing will hold up, given that my first printing of Conan is just begging to fall apart and it is only 350 pages.

I might do this...something that big will be interesting on its own, but I'll definately be looking at the art, stats, etc. for how good they are. B&W is a strike against, but I suppose that can't be helped. Still, I see real potential here.

I've got to go with the Hell No party
look I've already got five monster books that are REALLY GOOD and I don't even get to use those. So....no

Is it amazingly good that will add a LOT to my campaign? If yes, then probably. Will it be that good? I doubt it. I suspect this is a giant book of OGL monsters reprinted, but I hope I'm wrong.

I would have no problem shelling out 100 bucks, but only if it were for a book that has imaginative monsters and features high quality, full-color artwork. B/W, no way. Heck, I don't need 1000 pages if - in the end - I'll make use of about 10 of them, because the rest of the monsters isn't interesting.
