Wounds

What kind of wounds system are out there for the d20 rules?

I am looking for some variant of the massive damage rules

with lower threshold and wounds instead of death (if you fail your save)

I can think of "Dragon Lords of Melnimbone" and the future "OGL Ancients"

are there more?

thanks!

Aside from the WP/VP system used in Star Wars, you could also try using the Damage Save rules from Mutants & Masterminds.
From what I can tell, both these systems work well in cinematic type games, though of the two I prefer the Damage Save system.
Of the two, WP/VP would be the easier to convert. (specifically to a fantasy campaign)

Alternatively you could use the MAS system from d20 modern. (basically if you take more damage than your Con score, you make a save)

T20: Traveller have a system called Stamina/Lifeblood.

Sidewinder: Wild West Adventures have a system called Vim & Vigor.

I know that Mongoose Publishing have a variant system for their Judge Dredd, Babylon 5, and Armaggedon: 2089 games.

thanks for the answers

but

I am not looking for any wound/vitality system I am looking for something that if you take more than X damage you receive some grievous wound (I was even looking to use the RM Critical tables, but I would like something simpler)

actually there is only death from massive damage (except for DLoM and Ancients) I was curious to know if any other system adopted

wounds from massive damage

thanks again :)

d20 Modern have Dying from Massive Damage system. IOW, if you failed your Fort saving throw, you don't die, your HP is reduced to 0 (for nonlethal attack) or -1 (for lethal attack).

The closest thing we have to a wound/level system in the market right now is Mutants & Masterminds Damage Saving Throw system. This health system is so different that you may have to convert weapon damage dice stat into a straight value because said value is added to the base DC vs. Damage Saving Throws (based on Con modifier).

If I understand you correctly ( I think I do as you are actually thinking about using those big long tables from Role Master: Arms Law) then no. No system exists in D20 to my knowledge that refers to specific wounds. Grim-n-Gritty gets close but Mutants and Masterminds is just out as is d20:Modern.

Just for my edification, how were you going to do use the RM: Arms law tables? what sort of (slicing and) dicing method?

well I was thinking something like

hp from single blow (for human, different size creature should have different threshold):
>20 A crit
>25 B crit
>30 C crit
>35 D crit
>40 E crit
>45 E+A crit
...
and so on, but this is a tad much complex, I was hoping there was something around much simpler and already tried and tested

Wouldn't it be neat if all the posters had actually answered the question asked? There is a book of critiacal hits for the d20 system. I'm sorry I can't be of much help, since I can't remember the name of the book or the publisher, but it is only a few months old, check your FLGS for it.

If I can find the name, I'll post again.

Edit: I forgot to mention that in 2nd ed, this is what I was doing with massive damage, instead of death from amssive damage, it was a critical hit, from the ancient Dragon mag article Good Hits, Bad Misses

Ive been using Torn Asunder:Critical Hits in my FR game for many months now with great success. Its not just a critical hit and wound system either its also a called shot system and includes rules that flesh out the heal skill and expand healing magic.

It would be a simple thing to make it usable for d20 modern.
