WOW......what a game 7 succesful critical strikes

discjacker

First Post
Well I just finished DM'ing tonights game. I came out with 7 total succesful critical strikes. 3 of them were in a row, with the first one Killing one PC(assasins sneak attack). The next Two consecutive attacks were both critical strikes on the next PC who dropped to (-8) but was immediately stabalized by the cleric.

Any other stories of incredible crit runs.
One time with the same die I had my daughter kiss then roll the die she rolled 4 natural 20's in a row.

and no the die is'nt one of the 11-20 x2 "Formula De dies" or "special" in any other way.

Eh, that sort of thing happens though.

The one PC death in the game I run as when I rolled two criticals in a row against him. First with a bow for 30 points, max damage. Then with a club for 66, max damage. Against a fourth level character. It was pretty messy.

Once, when a low-to-medium-level (4th level or so) PC was fighting a bunch of goblins (all of them 2nd-level Barbarians) alone in a very simple melee, I announced that, to make the combat go faster, every round would count as three - e.g., you roll only once, but the result is applied three times. (This applied to the goblins, too, of course.)
Shortly thereafter, the player rolled two 20s and then high enough to hit - an insta-kill (I use that rule), and three 2nd-level goblin barbarians dropped to the ground, dead... :p

That's nothing :D

One time during a game, I killed an enemy by critical hitting him, and then my cleave activated (I was surrounded by enemies 6). I managed to critically hit all of them, rolling each critical hit consecutively.

Later on, when we faced an enemy, I rolled a 20, and then another 20, and then hit his AC. Instant death.

Must have been something in the air last night as my players went to town on my poor old monsters!

The Barb/Fighter got no less than 3 successful critcals on the same devil they were fighting for a total of 250 points of damage!!!!

He is a nasty badass in combat anyway but that was crazy!

Then the paladin scored two criticals on the main druid badgirl when he was using his smite ability!! that did over 200 points of damage too (but the main baddie had a chance to heal herself between blows).

The rest of the group just fought hard to keep those two on their feet and unflanked (including a hasted cleric casting 2 heal spells in the same round with her extra partial action!! - that was awesome as the devil was about to drop both the barb and paladin that round with Cleave - neither had more than 25 hps left).

Damn that was the best session (as far as combat goes) I've ever run - every die roll seemed to be a cliffhanger and all the players got to shine at some point (including the mage coming *this* close to taking out the devil at the end with vampiric touch, he missed the SR roll by about 2 I think).

That was a great way to end the campaign I think as the party was victorious and stopped the nasty baddies that have been plagueing them for over a year and got a pile of treasure and magic.

If you're woried about fake dice/pulled dice roll inbetween rolls

I score a 20!
Roll it again, this doesn't count
20
Hmm this is real
20
Really? now again
20 (Starts to blush)
Ok thats enough

Something in the air, yeah i think so, cause come to think of it the PC's also rolled an inordinate amount of criticals. If you count my 7 Crits and the groups crits there were 11 succesful critical strikes.

GM: 1pc death
PC: 3npc deaths

I still won I think.......JK

In our last session -- which happened to be the final encounter with the chief baddies -- our combat included the following important and improbable rolls:

1) A wicked critical hit scored by one of the primary nasties, that dropped one of the PC's in our party.
2) Two successful crits, each for nearly max damage, by PC's attacking subsequent to one another. This wiped out the aforementioned evil dude above.
3) My character used his Rod of Wonder to flame about 20 low level minions and five sergeants with a fireball of nearly maximum effect. To better put this vital roll into perspective, please note the following:
a. The Rod is modified by our DM and has 50 or so possible effects
b. The range of occurence for any one effect does not exceed 2%
c. Our group was facing just over 30 foes in an ambush, and we were already pretty beat up and low on spells...

In other words, that fireball saved our collective arses :) .

Well, I rolled several 18's last gaming night with a crit range of 19-20/x3. Doh!

Maybe this was a hint, that I should take Improved Critical as my next feat (next level I'd have the required BAB and get a feat)! ;)

Bye
Thanee
