That was my exact first thought as well.

Though I'm not opposed to watching this, I feel absolutely no impetus in seeing it on the big screen.

that might be the wrong way to see it.

My general assumption is special FX films are better on big screen. At least in comparison to dramatic acting movies. You don't need a big screen to see people talking to each other....

the extra variable on Gravity is that this is one of those wide open, large expanse films with objects flying at you, etc.

Meaning, it's probably aimed at being 3d, and majestic like some of those I-Max flying films.

The panoramic view perspective is likely a key attribute to "being there" with the main character.

Or it'll make you hurl chunks.

But if you don't spew, the big screen is likely the best way to view.
