We are looking at 5 chapters per book, with the word and path count undefined currently. Til we can play the game with a book, we won't know how it feels and flows.

No, not like Scourge of Worlds. It will be a CYOA with RPG elements.

 Scourge of Worlds, was a D&D CYOA "movie". It featured 3rd edition D&D protagonists, Regdar, Mailee, Lidda. "[F]ight the druid or [E]scape" was one of the options.

Visual novels, Scourge of Worlds is one, are things like dating sims, where you are presented options and due to those options you go through the CYOA story.

So what am I missing about this project to understand it?

I understand what a visual novel is. I don't understand what you are asking. It is not animated, or visual based. It will be like a book, with still pictures. But players will also have classes, items, abilities, and RPG style combat.

It will be like a book, with still pictures. But players will also have classes, items, abilities, and RPG style combat.

This is what I am not understanding....a book with still pictures with players....you read a book, not play it.

So how do the classes/etc/RPG style combat fit in exactly with the CYOA model?

The class will alter what paths you are offered along the CYOA? The abilities open up different options at decision making intersections? Not having a certain item will force you to go back and get it before you can continue? Killing the leader of the orcs leads down one path, while letting him live takes you down a different raod.

Those are all parts of a CYOA book and visual novel, so where does the "make them into a video game" part come in?

The class will alter what paths you are offered along the CYOA?- Yes

The abilities open up different options at decision making intersections?- Yes

Not having a certain item will force you to go back and get it before you can continue? - No, the story will only progress forward

Killing the leader of the orcs leads down one path, while letting him live takes you down a different raod.- Yes

Those are all parts of a CYOA book and visual novel, so where does the "make them into a video game" part come in?- The exact nature of the game cannot easily be conveyed, and until we are ready to release it we do not want to spill all the beans.

I am sending you a link to the writing guidelines that can more easily answer your questions, because it does sound like you might be interested. I hope this will answer most of your questions, and if you need to know more in order to write the story, please handle it with emails to me. I can add them to our FAQ within the same document.
