Xath and Archon: Kids in the Hall

I think the likelyhood of these major decisions ever coming into play is slim.

I agree. He would have been much better off not to make such a choice, now - but rather to wait and see.

1) Tain's not going to say, "If you kill that little girl, you can win the war."

2) It's highly unlikely that a BBEG is going to have the circle and Archon's daughter suspended over a pit of lava and make him choose between them.

Also very true. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, Archonus has imagined some type of similar situation, and chosen the child's life over the cause, and over your lives.

3) Even if an immediate choice forced Archonus to protect one over the other, he would do so with the knowledge that the circle member is capable of defending his or herself and the child is not.

If it's not a hard choice, it's not a choice at all. If it's between protecting Justice from a kobold and the child from a kobold - no contest, no problem with the oath. That's not what we're talking about, here.

What if he has to choose between returning to Sylvanus to protect the child, or remaining in Hyrwl to protect the Queen? The prince? What if he must choose between protecting the child from a creature, or allowing the last spiritblade to fall into the hands of the enemy? If he chooses the child, the oath would be broken.

REGARDLESS, as far as I can read, he has already chosen the child, rather than letting individual circumstance dictate how he has chosen. Is that wrong?

If he just waited to make up his mind, THIS WOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE.

I do not particularly relish this, but I will enforce the oath that Archon helped to create.

have fun guys. i guess Archon is out of the picture.
IC would arhconus's mind go through this ultimatum? Is this his train of thought?

Most of this is OOC and so we are thinking about it.... but would he at this juncture?

Unless Kennon says otherwise this is up to you Mik and your choice of would he or would he not.

I'd like to point out for practicality's sake that Archon cannot be out of the picture because this takes place in the past and Archonus is still with us in Caer Albion.

Archon, being wise, would know that the unconditional choice of his child over the Circle and the Cause to which it is dedicated would result in breaking the oath. He has all the warnings and options I have laid out available to him, and more if he can think of some that I find agreeable.

I don't *want* him to break the oath.

Even simply changing "he would" to "he might" would probably mean the oath was still healthily in place.

Right. This will have to be resolved one way or another "now" so that the following events do not need to be heavily revised.

Archon said:
"If you are forcing me to choose between my *child* and the Circle, then i have already made my decision. My child comes first now. Take it as you will. I don't expect any of you to understand."
With that Archonus turns around and exits the meeting.

Straight from the mouth.
I guess this means you guys are down one AA. And don't think that atonement will work because he'll never be *sorry* for choosing his own child before anything else.

Well figure out a way to resolve it. I'm trying to keep this off of the railroad tracks, but I'm honestly at a loss, at this point.

Remember - "might" would still have the oath in place.

but there is no "might" there is no "waying of the options." He knows that he loves the child above all things. He does not need to "think" about it.

In a previous IC convo which I am still trying to sumup:

Xath: If it ever comes to a point where you have to choose between my life or the life of your child, I want you to choose the child.

Archonus remains silent.

Xath: Promise me?

Archonus: I cannot promise that.
