Err... that's wrong. The HD-DVD player doesn't have any video output on its own. It uses whatever you connect your console to your TV. This could, theoretically, be a problem with some of the copy protection schemes used with HD-DVD (and Blu-Ray); it's possible to mark a movie so that if it's end-to-end HDMI with HDCP the movie signal will be degraded to SD resolutions. However, no movies actually do that, and all studios have promised that they won't for at least another two years.
