Xen'drik Brainstorming

First Post
Well, its almost 1:00am & I have to get up to go to work ina few hours, though visions of Eberron are dancing in my head as I patiently wait for my book to get here (next week :\ )----anywho, at the moment, the game I'm thinking of running will, for a bit at least, deal w/exploring Xen'drik. I'll be using the tauric drow/scorpion presented at wizard's site here:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/eo/20040709a
and discussed here:
http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=273336

I have a few ideas/doodles sketched out of the 'elite beast', but, as always, I'm looking for more ideas :D

For the drow tribes, I'm planning on having them range from noble native, to feral savages----though there will be something that will tie them together. Some tribes may have templates applied to 'em

As for other races, I know thrikreen will make an appearance as well as other bug possibilities & reptiles.

My ideas may change once i get the book, but, with my daughter going to another state to visit her grandma & my wife doing her 'church thing', I wanted to get an early start since i'll finally have some free time & hopefully tuurn these ideas into a good PBP game :) . So please share your ideas :D

Hmmm... just got the ECS from amazon by mail yesterday...

Anyhoo... Xen'drik, with it's pyramids and all seems a bit maya/inca influenced (at least the giants, and as servants, the local elves (drow or otherwise, maybe some feral non-drow elves are also still in residence in Xen'drik) should prolly follow some of their ways as that's what they know) and so I was thinking of incorporating some of the Maztika stuff (freely available for download from the WOTC site).

Think of the jaguar and eagle warriors etc., plume magic and similar things, only make it less peaceful then in the maztika setting, make it a bot darker and more feral...

Also, there will definately have to be cannibal tribes, always fun to have to rescue party members from the cooking pot....

Also think a bit amazon indian stuff, blowdarts with sleeping or lethal poisons...

Furthermore, with thick jungle, lots of 'living plants', all manner of plant monsters like strangle vines, nasty treantlike beings etc...

Just some ideas that spring to mind...

While the jungles of the amazon come to mind so to the jungles of India/Asia. One of the things common to both was the use of water ways and even how cities were built for seasonal floods.

Lizardman tribes (good friend/foe race) - in fear of the deeper jungle and the creatures that live there.

The jungles: gaint snakes, spiders, scorps, and killer plants. Oh, don't forget the monkeys and birds, make the monkeys a type of arboreal kobold and the birds into striges.

Illiness - everytime you turn around something is making you sick.

Saw this on the building of the Panama Cannel: after a flood parts of the land would bake due to the suns heat, this would create a thin layer of mud over a very wet marsh. Workers would step onto it and next they knew the mud would crack and they would fall into the muck under it and die!

There's nothing that can scare the :):):):) out of players faster than size Large Cannibals. Make a tribe of flesh-eating giants: depending on how tough you want them to be, give them the stats of Hill, Frost, or Storm Giants. Have them leaping from limb to limb of MASSIVE trees (instead of vine to vine), and instead of stones, have them throwing homemade javelins made from those trees (say, 60 ft range increments, 1d8 to 2d6 damage depending on size), and have their war cries in the Jungles of Xen'drik carry for miles.

Then, when they take to the mountains to escape the Giants, that's when you bring in the Tauric Drow Scorpion-People, clinging to the sides of outcroppings, hiding behind cover, and shooting them with Scorpion poison arrows. If the PC's start failing cimb checks due to lost STR, or if they lose all STR totally from poison, it's

the mountain they go....

...That's not to mention the Massive Giant ruins they find, complete with rare groups of Leftover Horrors from Dal Quor, their ancestors trapped back after the Giants threw the plane out of alignment, and sprinkle with Warforged components of all shapes and sizes, and Siberys shards that do totally unexpected things to any Dragonmarks the PC's have (like enabling Sivis marks to shoot off Bolts of Bedevilment instead of Whispering wind), or Having the PC's trying to figure out how to use those Size Huge Daggers with the +3 vs. Monstrous Humanoids, and having to leave the Huge Greatswords of Unholy Bane alone...
