Anyone else notice that the psionic version of identify takes a whole day to cast?!

Anyone else think thats a little.....excessive?
On the other hand, it needs something to balance the fact that it doesn't require 100 gp per item. Then again, maybe putting it at 2nd level does that.

No gold cost? Egads, that's...interesting.

Does it seem odd to anyone else that a psionic ability is used to identify magic items? I don't suppose a magic spell can identify psion9c items now can it? Hmmm, odd.

Actually magic spells can identify psionic items, under the transparancy rules that are the default setting.

Wizard: "Aha! THIS is a crystal capacitor used to store psionic power points!"
Fighter: "What is a capacitor and what are psionic power points?"
Wizard: "I...have NO IDEA!" :)

They should have translated all gp costs to xp costs (maybe in a 10:1 ratio instead of the usual 5:1, tho).

A 1 day casting time really seems a bit silly. :)

please not more spells/powers with exp costs ;/ gah! anything that says 'cast me and lose exp!' I avoid like the plague, especially with the psions already limited number of powers known. Let it being 2nd level be enough of a hit without needing to spend exp on it too!

2nd level probably is not enough (which is why they also drastically increased casting time).

Maybe 4th level would be ok with the same 1h casting time.

About XP costs... Yes, of course, that's harsh, but then again, when you have a 250gp material component (or something in that region), you simply won't use the spell very often. Since psionic powers have no material components, pretty much the only way to assure the same would be an XP cost.

But taking a long time and useing a higher level spell slot (twice as high to be exact ;) ) certainly counts for something.

It isnt like identify at first level 'without' the material component would be overpowering anyway. It provides a necissary function.

If you are going to up the level by that much then it had better get some 'major' perks. Leaving out a paltry (and at the levels where casters are casting 4th level spells, 100gp isnt exactly a big deal) material component definately doesnt cut it.

Oh, those 100gp per item sum up quite fast.

And yeah, upping level to two and increasing duration (thereby making the spell useless during an adventure basically) seems fair enough. That's what I meant, but if you would reduce the duration, you would need to balance that by - for example - upping the level (i.e. level 3 and 8h or level 4 and 1h).

Clerics with the proper domain can already cast Identify (as a 2nd level spell) without spending the 100 gp. And with the normal casting time, as well.
