Anyone remember Space Quest by Tyr Games?n

This was a fun little one book space opera game from the late 70s designed by some of the people who later designed Bushido. Daredevils, and Aftermath! While the later 3 all used the same basic system, Space Quest followed the D&D book of character classes and levels but also had a rudimentary skill system. It was Space Opera not the we still use bullets and swords of the original Traveler— there were blasters and light sabers and monofilament blades; my favorite weapons were the automatic energy weapon called an ion chatter ( yes, a blaster rifle on full automatic mode) and a hand weapon called a Gamma mace. The tech, medical and psionic classes all had powers related to their roles, and each had an arbitrary limitation on what weapons they could use, just like wizards, Druid’s and clerics did in the original versions of D&D. Armor absorbed damage and more advanced weapons did more damage for each point of damage that penetrated- for example a blaster might do 4 d6 against armor, and if points got through, each point did 10 hp worth of damage.

We had almost a decade of fun with the game before the group disbanded. I can’t say that I played any version of a ttrpg longer; multiple versions, yes, but the other games we played longer included the successive versions. Anyways, wondering if anyone else remembers Trilax and Sniz and most importantly Void Sharks?

I hadn’t, but found it in the RPGG database.

Am surprised it wasn’t FGU…

Oh, and Traveller is still in the space opera genre; it’s just grounded in 50’s & 60’s space opera.
