Couldn't get into the EXP boards, so this gets posted here. This being a correction to the Glossary available at the EXP site for AMMS:WE.
Correction:
Bank: A place where space is leased for the storage of coin, specie, or other type of valuable. Often the most secure building in town.
Banker: One who runs a bank. Leasing out storage space, containers, and exchanging coins for a letter of credit or vice versa.
Money Lender: One who lends money, often at a substantial interest rate. Sometimes a banker as well, but not necessarily.
End correction
The practice of paying people to save at a bank is a modern day development. The Swiss still have banks that charge people to keep their money safe there, though these days the specie more often comes in the form of gold and silver bars, or in the form of bearer bonds and similar items. Leasing a safe deposit box at a bank is one of the last remnants of the original practice, and if you have a certain minimum at that bank (which varies from institution to institution) you get the box for free.
