[YAELHT] Does magic really make the world go around?

I just got the ELH and I'm a little disappointed to find that most of the classes were slapped together with extra feats. Spellcasters get to know, cast, and make more spells as they progress in levels while the other classes are stuck with feats that will eventually become meaningless. I know I'm not the only one who had anticipated something more. It's been bothering me, and I wanted to get some more posts. But there is still an issue in my head that is causing me to question role-playing altogether: does magic really make the world go around? I don't want to think that, because if so, then why even have the other classes?

Yes, in D&D magic is the defining factor of how powerful a PC is. Look in the General RPG forum, there's currently a thread about how, if you reduce the amount of magic items available in the game, Fighters and other such classes become far less powerful because they lose access to their only source of magic.

That's just the way it works in D&D. Spellcasters gain their power innately, from their class abilities (spellcasting) and are aided by magic items.

Meanwhile Fighters and Rogues gain their power from an outside source, their magic items, and that is aided by their class abilities. Magic is the defining factor of how powerful each class will be, it's just that the source of that power comes from different areas. And that's the way D&D has always been.

Heh. Shocker there. A spellcaster that learns more spells, casts more spells, and makes more spells as he goes up in level. Sheesh. What the hell were those Wizo's thinkin'? My god! I mean, how silly is it for a spellcaster to actually get better at spellcasting as he/she levels?! Rediculous!!!

Just in case anyone is confused, all that was sarcasm.

But, seriously, I fail to see the problem. I guess I kinda expect a spellcaster to get better at spellcasting as he levels. Yeah, I know. I'm just wierd, funky, and crazy that way.
