Yay!!! Gamma World in Dungeon! :)

I like the how to nature of this article. It isn't just an infodump about a location you may or may not use. That's something I haven't seen in Dungeon or Dragon for awhile.

Even though this is a GammaWorld article, many of the tables could be used for any game. I think that's a nice touch too.

I agree with the thought that the magazines (the pay-for content) should focus on D&D and get back up to the quantity of content we've seen in the past, as well as increase the overall quality. If they get back to what we, as readers, would like, then a GW article in the mags would be welcome. Until then, I'm happy to see at least some support being provided in the free content section of the website.

It's worth noting that the magazines underwent a change in leadership and direction mid-year 2010. The new editor, Steve Winter, has been quite forthcoming with his interests, expectations, etc. and has posted editorials and blog posts about how to submit for the mags, citing what WotC is looking for as the mags move forward.

There's been some hubbub about how things haven't really changed much (and some say the quality has decreased) in this time, but keep in mind that content for the magazines is plotted out many months in advance of an issue. It takes time to invoke changes, approve proposals, get them written and turned in, order art/cartography, format and typeset, etc. I have something in the pipe that, by the time it is published in early 2011, will have been in the pipe for over a year.

All of that said, I'm interested in hearing what people think of the article itself. The Wizards Community has thus far been pretty quiet on this article.

So, chime in. Let me know what you think.

You've probably seen my various complaints in other threads if you've been looking at the forums - but I actually really loved the article. I didn't make a direct comment because I was a bit too busy being all abloo abloo about other things. To be honest I made a comment to one of my players on MSN that I thought it was a good article compared to the actual one we "paid" for that was released. Of course, I am a total sucker for Gamma World and I absolutely love it, so any further support for Gamma World is something I desire/highly approve of. Depending on ones tolerance for Gamma World I think determines how much you appreciate the article. Once my campaigns get to around paragon tier or so, I want to offer my players the chance for some gamma world. I also want to introduce my IRL group in Sydney once I get it started to DnD (well the concept of PnP games) with Gamma world as well.

Edit: I may even be inspired to gamma world up Sydney. A good underground laboratory in the middle of the Sydney Cricket Ground would go down well I feel.

I'm iffy on it.

I got no problem with them supporting other lines, and GW and D&D are kissin' cousins, but unless the GW info is going to end up in the Compendium/Character Builder/Whatever at some point, it's ignorable. Less than a thing. Insignificant.

And it's a little annoying because it's a resource they could be spending on D&D stuff, which hasn't been all that great shakes.

Its position is a little problematic, too. I mean, are GW players going to buy a DDI account to read a GW article? Or is this meant only for the overlapping subset, as a sort of DORKY COMBO BONUS!!?

I miss the gold old days of Dragon when there was support for lots of games, book reviews, and all sorts of things that interested a gamer. I really, really miss those days.

One of the best articles I've seen in Dragon/Dungeon for quite some time.

I am very keen for the addition of GW materials - it seems to me that GW is creative in a way that D&D is scared of being. It feels raw and exciting - I will be looking at getting into GW when my cashflow improves.

However - I am worried if it goes the way of the old paper magazines and instead of it being additional material it replaces what should be D&D articles - useful adventures and articles have been few and far between for me of late and I would hate for the number of D&D articles and adventures to reduce even further.

While I'm talking about adventures - any of you adventure writers out there - I'd love to see any Eberron adventures for parties of higher than 7th level - at the moment I don't think there is anything for 4e.

But I digress....
