I have the book here and can field a few questions as I find time!
As for d20 Modern, I doubt that Monte doesn't like it, rather this was intended to be a 'Dungeons & Dragons' themed collection. As it is, there is a single d20 modern spell in the tome, and it's been updated to work with the standard 'D&D' style of d20 for this book.
"Publishers were invited to submit works of fantasy, horror, science fiction, superheroes, modern, and other genres, as long as they were compatible with the d20 System/Open Game License and published in 2004."
Some of it is cool, but I already own the original books from whence the material came from. What surprised me was the relatively limited number of sources for the final collection. I wonder if not that many products were submitted, or if the culling process was far more draconian than I originally thought it could be? I'm thinking the former option, personally.
