Yeenoghu writeup

On Yeenoghu: WTF!!!!!!!! Where are his items??????????

The problem is the Demon Lord Glathylabolgolobolus, who has the power to cast Mordenkainen's Disjunction at will. He likes to sneak up on other demon lords and ruin their junk.

No, I think the problem is that if he has too much material/goods, that it's just going to make the party that much more powerful when they punk him and take his stuff.

Classic!
'Remember, if your party beats a Great Wyrm, it doesn't mean you are smarter than the dragon; it means the dragon is smarter than the DM!'

Can't remember where I saw that, but I thinkl it's a classic. :D

Yeah, but what int does a high level wizard/sage/alchemist have? It could easily be up i nthe 24+ spot too.

So, in the dog-eat-dog world of the Abyss, your first action when faced with a party of adventurers is... run away?

That'll inspire confidence in the minions.

:) Obviously you are a mortal. Yeenoghu is simply charging along an non-standard path through space-time. I would submit that his minions would understand this approach and be loathe to mouth-off to his gnoll-ness about his combat strategy lest he they be on the receiving end of it.

Actually this is a good point, but there's no way that they'd stumble upon him by himself, and/or ummm... without him ALREADY being buffed beyond imagination. He'd have already summoned his gnolls, vrocks and ghouls.

Oh, and I'm also not convinced that Chaotic Evil creatures really value the conventional virtues of bravery and standing your ground. After all, the reason that humans probably look askance upon running away is that the person doing the running isn't going to stick around to protect you. IMO that's a Lawful ethic.

I would think that immortal Chaotic Evil creatures would come to terms with the fact that their kind don't value those things. IMC I would not use "stalwart" to describe a demon lord. Yeenoghu's minions aren't relying on him to be some sort of cool inspirational leader. Yeenoghu's minions probably follow him for the opportunity to devour Y's left-overs, and because they will get killed if they try to leave.

The problem here is that he tries to teleport away, but the PC's have dimensional anchor. The party fighter beats the snot out of him while the rest of the party searches through the room.

Besides, in your scenario, a gorup of 20th level characters are not going to have to worry about 95% of those things as they'll have detections, abilities, allies, etc... Heck, the priest could gate in a 40 HD solar to take care of him and sit back smoking a pipe.

How is this a problem? Tactics aren't 100% successful, are they? Plus you seem to have talked you way past the idea that the PC casting dimensional anchor would have to win initiative plus Y would have to fail a spell resistance check. And again, this is under the questionable assumption that the PCs even get within range of Y under circumstances unfavorable to him (ie. no horde of minions).

Also, I'm assuming that the 20th level fighter matches against a CR 20 monster, meaning that, by definition, the PC fighter's victory is not assured at all. Though perhaps your response is partly a rant against the CR chosen for Yeenoghu? In this case make him CR 100, but you're still going to have trouble when 4 100th level characters seek him out. There's really no way to win this hypothetical arms race.

Bottom line, if you accept the CR 20 rating, then of course there is a chance that Yeenoghu would simply be killed by a moderately lucky party (or some unlucky rolls on the part of Y). I don't see the problem with that - we're talking about a party of adventurers of equal power to him individually.

If I would slap a Paragon Template on him, give him a divine rank how would the 20th level party manage?
