In 3.x, taking a greatsword hit for 18 didn't mean a greatsword actually chopped your arm to the bone. It might not have even hit you, especially if you had over 100 hp. Hit Points were an abstraction then; they're even more of one now.</p><p></p><p>It's simply a lack of acceptance of change. </p><p></p><p>If I've got 20 hit points, and someone cranks me one for 4 damage with a longsword, I didn't necessarily take a hit. But if I have to dodge 5 more blows like that, I'm gonna be so exhausted that the next one puts me in my place, on the ground and bleeding out. That's my take on it anyway.
