You know what makes D20 great?

Nope. I just won't rest until Psion sees the error of his ways and admits that the coolness of a Luxan Ranger/Jedi/Warder/Paladin with a Holy Avenger Gun-Blade(can somebody give me the real name of that weapon, I don't own the Farscape D20 book yet) and a +5 Vorpal Lightsaber is beyond question!

Because let's face it, if they're cool separate, then they ought to be even cooler together.

OTOH, I wouldn't go that far. Stripes are cool, and plaids are cool. Pastels can look nice, and so can dark solids. But God help the poor soul who thinks they can pull off wearing all four at the same time.

So, there are conditions.

Oh, modify the Holy Avenger so that it's a gun-blade like D'argo carries in Farscape, so that it can shoot holy energy blasts!

Rock on!!!

If that's the flavor a group wishes, then GO FOR IT! :D

And once you throw Cthulhu in the mix(modified of course with the help of Mutants and Masterminds, as well the Monster's Handbook), ROCK ON!!!

And once you get into space in that living X-Wing to dogfight with the Vorlon Highlanders(who have, of course, hijacked an entire Imperial Fleet, including a Super Star Destroyer), then All Your Base Are Belong To Us, because that's how cool it is!

Versatility, while not an excuse for BAD combinations, can often come up with some really good ones. The d20 Call of Cthulhu, and the d20 Modern games, are a match made in... er... hell. For the players, that is.

But you get my point, I hope.

Well, I think I do, but don't consider that example too good. I find the Call of Cthulhu d20 chargen attrocious, and if I ever ran d20 CoC, I'd use d20 modern's chargen instead of d20 CoC's.

Let me ask you this, Psion. If you were to run a D20 Modern version of CoC, would you allow me to create a Luxan Gunslinger/Ranger as my investigator???

On the other hand, I LOVE the d20 CoC character rules, but it depends on the desired effect. If I were playing a more low-key gritty game, those rules fit very well. The players are meant to be frail, and the chance to die outright from a hit that many 2nd or 3rd level D&D characters would shrug off fits that power of game, IMHO.

If I'm running Law and Order SVU, I'll ask my players to generate d20 CoC characters. If I'm running Fastlane or Special Unit 2, I'll call for d20 Modern characters. It's all in the level of reality the game will simulate.

Now, Blackshirt, as for Luxan Jedi Rangers, they're welcome in my d20 Gamma World games ANYTIME! :) Good luck fighting the Radioactive Cthulhu Piloting my Imperial Super Star Destroyer and his flock of Hyperdrive Assisted Byakhee! (As if the Star-Spawn of Cthulhu Turbolaser gunners wouldn't finish you off first!)

Is this a trick question? No, I would not. Unless, of course, I started with the idea of making the campaign a Farscape meets Cthulhu crossbreed from the get-go (and then, I would probably use Farcape as the base system, not d20 modern.)

BRING IT ON!!! In fact, come down to Jersey and run that game for me, Angcuru, RakeRon, and Vechs, and just let us Gen characters. It'll be a tossup which one I use, that or Mr. Hahn.
