A light crossbow. Simple, effective at range, useful every round, and both it and the quarrels can be magicked.

And for space games, I always pack a Very Rapid Fire Gauss Gun.

Shortbow. Most D&D sessions take place at close ranges, so a Longbow is just cumbersome and the range isn't necessary.

For melee, either fists or a short sword. I don't play fighter-types much. :D

In-game: Dual bastard swords was cool to play, even with the big penalties I took (ahem, Power Attack +5...).

IRL, if I were to wield weapons, would probably be a rapier, dual short swords, or a longsword in my offhand with a short sword in my main. Use the LS to parry, SS as main weapon, and LS for backup as well ( maybe that should be my cinematic preference, dunno how well that'd work IRL).

Naginata,or some other polearm. Too many saturday kung-fu movies as a young'un.

Though my current character(mage) uses a quarterstaff, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Axes, I love axes,
Battle Axes, Pick Axes
Axes really Rock,
Orc Axes, Dwarven Axes
Even if I had chicken pox,
I'd love axes, sharpened axes,
The Axes with which I fight!!!

(For those confused, sing to the tune of the old "Armour Hot Dogs" jingle)
